First of all, I just wanted to say thanks for all of the wisdom you all have put onto this site. I have scoured this community for the last 3 months looking for tips and advice as I have been researching over the last 5 months.
Living in Chicago I am in not shortage of local, informative jewelers. I feel like I'm fairly well educated, but when I saw a particular loose diamond online at bluenile, I did something I didn't think I would do (based largely on the advice of this community) I purchased a diamond unseen from bluenile...and a cushion cut no less! Granted, I feel pretty insulated from risk on the purchase, due largely to their 30 day return policy and the amount of time I have before I propose. It was worth whatever cash flow might be tied up to perhaps get a great deal.
I am wondering if there is anything the more experienced members here could tell me about what I may be overlooking, and what I need to look for when it arrives. The GIA rating are below -
1.27 carats
Cushion
Modified Brilliant
Color: G
Clarity: VS1
L/W ratio : 1.22 (she wants a more rectangular look)
6.76mm X 5.55mm X 3.91mm
Strong Blue Florescence
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Girdle: Slightly Thick to Very Thick
Depth: 70.5
Table: 66
Cutlet: none
The site lists the cut as Good, even though I know GIA does not rate the cut for cushion
The only thing I can think of that is keeping the price down is the fluorescence, L/W ratio and the Girdle - but they don't seem to THAT far out of line - price paid was <$5100 - unless the cut is just horrendous (the depth and table seem in line with a decent cut though)
Am I missing something obvious? Or is it possible that just got lucky (comparable from James Allen, Blue Nile, and other online stores are between 6900-8100)
I realize that it's hard to tell these things based off a stat sheet, but I would appreciate any feedback from the information I have and maybe a few things to look for when the stone arrives.
Thanks in advance!
Dave
