Hello all,

I have done quite a bit of research thanks to Pricescope and have been looking for the right stone. While searching the inventories of numerous vendors including those from Pricescope, I came across the following:

1.45 I SI1 round brillliant
Depth 62%
Table 55%
Crown 35.1 deg
Pavilion 40.8 deg
HCA=1.8
Price $7200

I looked at the IS image and grading report and everything looked great. I contacted the vendor to put the stone on hold/purchase and the response was that the stone was already sold.

At first, I figured someone had beat me to the punch on this stone. However, after reading an article on internet diamond retailing I came across the following info:

"Other more legitimate errors like typing or clicking on the letter "G" instead of an "H" or a "VS-1" instead of a "VS-2" when entering diamonds into inventory are reflected on the multiple listing service routinely by data entry clerks who happen to strike the wrong key or skip a line when entering items on to the listing. Amazingly enough, these diamonds will always have "just sold" or will be “out on memo” when you call to order them because the cutter isn''t about to lose money due to a clerical error, nor are they likely to admit the error because it is counterproductive to their God Complex."

Is there a chance that this is what happened to me on the stone I was interested in? When I look for stones with similar specs and quality at other sites I am seeing prices that are $3,000 more expensive. Was this deal too good to be true? I just want to know if I should hold out my search for something in similar price range/quality or adjust my expectations and be willing to pay more for what I want.

My budget is ~$10,000 for the stone with the following criteria:

cut - ideal (doesn''t have to be hearts and arrows, but should have excellent optical symmetry)
1.3-1.6 carat
color F-I
Clarity VS1-SI1

Thanks in advance for any input.

Since it was a diamond the vendor owned and they have a policy that says they are not liable for pricing errors they would have said if that was the case.
Price does seem on the low side.
Who knows when it was sold however sometimes diamonds get left on the lists by error at times. It is rare but it happens and sometimes they can be on there for months after they are sold. It is marked as sold on the vendors website.

10k is a reasonable budget for what you want.

I was watching the same stone. It was "new listing" one day, and "sold" the next. But it was a very good deal, so it might have sold in just one day.
