This is my first post so Hi!!! I just picked up a 1.74 carat H VS2 HA Ideal from GOG. I am lucky to be within an hour and 15min drive from Rich Sherwood in Sarasota Fl and he gave it the OK. This is for my 20th anniversary. The diamond is just beautiful!!! I am now looking for a setting. I had thought about having a 3 stone ring made with 1/3 carat side stones. My wife''s ring size is 5. Would this be too much or should I stick with a solitaire setting? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. I wish I had picture but I don''t have a digital camera. By the way consider this another recommendation for GOG and Rich Sherwood. I have included a link for the diamond. I hope it works.

Congrats on your 20th anniversary!!! It''s a gorgeous stone. I love the look of a 3 stone ring and don''t think it''s too big for a size 5 finger. Or you can have it set in a temporary setting and let your wife choose the setting she wants... Just a thought, good luck!!! And welcome to PS

I think a three-stone ring would be incredible....especially for a 20th anniversary!!

I also think it would look great on your wife''s size 5 finger.

Check out the ring in this link....it''s one of my all-time favs here on Pricescope. The stone is bigger than yours, and Kristy''s finger is smaller....and it looks sensational:

How exciting! Congratulations on your 20th. Is this going to be a surprise??? She''ll faint dead away!!!

I agree, I think a 3 stone would be a wonderful idea for an anniversary and definitely not too big at all.

WOW.....That is a monster!!! I guess I have nothing to worry about (other than my feelings of inadequacy after seeing that). It is going to be a surprise and I have a few months to get things finished. I had been reading and looking the past few months and I found the one I liked so I decided to try to beat the holiday and Valentines''s Day rush and get it now. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. When it''s done maybe I can have someone take a digital picture for me to post.

Just a question, does she like "blingy" rings/jewelry, or is her taste more on the simpler side? I''m not trying to dissuade you, just making sure it''s to her taste, as it WILL be blingy!

And congrats on your purchase!

I think a 3 stone would be amazing and I don''t think her finger is too small for it.

I have a size 5 1/4. I have a 1.63ct round stone set with a baguette on each side. The baguette length takes up more room across the finger than a 1/3 ct diamond would.

I would almost go up to 1/2 carat each side stone. The center is a good size so I don''t think it would take away from it at all.

What an amazing gift!! I''m sure she would love it!

Are you going with platinum? I would go with platinum!

Ohmygosh, I didn''t link Kristy''s ring to instill feelings of inadequacy!!

Your 1.74 is going to be GORGEOUS and PERFECT!!!!

I think it''s just great you''re going with a three-stone....so befitting an occasion as momentous as a 20th anniversary. (Solitaires are lovely, but more "recently-engaged-ish" to me...)

How wonderful that it''s going to be a surprise! She will be SO THRILLED...

Have you decided on what shaped sidestones you''ll use?

I want to use round side stones and I agree that a plain solitaire setting would look like another engagment ring. Not that there is anything wrong with that but I wanted something a little different. I was going to use yellow gold with a platinum head because all her other rings are yellow. Do you think the yellow would adversely affect the color much? I know many people prefer platinum and I can understand why but I really like the look of yellow gold jewelry. It just gives you that warm fuzzy feeling.

So this will not be in place of the ering? She will wear it on her RIGHT hand? Is her right hand a size 5? My right hand ring size is bigger than my left.

There is a thread here "cushion downgrade" that shows how blingy a 3 stone is compared to a halo. Will your wife like this look? I like a round with pear sides but I think round sides will be stunning too.

Have fun doing this. Your wife will LOVE the ring.

Congratulations on your 20th! The stone you picked is beautiful and what a nice surprise this will be for your wife! I don''t think a 3 stone ring will be too big on a size 5 finger either. Please post pics when you decide on the setting.

looks to my untrained eye to be stunning...congrats and I am sure she will love it.

You are totally correct about the left hand/right hand size difference. Her left is 4.5 and her right is 5. I didn''t plan on this being an ering replacement since I''m sure this will not be worn every day. But I also for sentimental reasons don''t want to replace the original ering (a nice 1 carat but not as well cut as the new diamond). That is her engagement ring when I proposed and it wouldn''t feel right to have it supplanted by something else even if it is nicer. But that being said the ring can always be made smaller or worn a bit loose on the left hand maybe with a tighter ring behind it. I know she has a small spacer she wears between her ering and wedding ring. As for bling my guess is she thinks the more the merrier!!! Who can say no to more diamonds?
