It''s kinda freaking me out! I like happy Grey''s Anatomy!!! Is anyone else watching?

I''m watching - I can''t believe it. Honestly it is like a nightmare.

I stopped watching the show after Derek got into a car wreck or something on the season finale when he and Meredith decided to be together and were up on that hill with the candles in the shape of an outline of a house.

That show jumped the shark so long ago that now I can''t even stand to watch the previews!

I don''t always watch the show but I know what''s going on.

I bawled for an hour and a half tonight....!! omg

Whoa. Just whoa.

But ... semi-spoilers!!

Totally not surprising who lived and died. Not like I wanted any major character to die, but like BF said, "there has been absolutely no surprises in this episode." And after the build-up, I thought there would be.

That was way too scary for me. I spent most of the episode with my head buried in DH''s shoulder half-crying. This is why I don''t watch horror movies.

I literally spent the whole two hours with my hands over my eyes *wishing* it was almost over. I miss happy, lighthearted Grey''s.

And where was the typical cliffhanger at the end of the episode?? Like BEG said... there was so much buildup and then... ? Not much to make me look forward to next season.

I don''t watch it, but somebody tell me what happened! Lol.

LOL I quit watching when it turned all dark and moody as well, but now I am curious!

Possibly a spoiler in this so don''t read if you haven''t watched yet and plan on it.....

I know I commented on this already but being that I can''t sleep now (because I can''t stop thinking about the show - in a bad way) I''m commenting again. I personally thought it was awful. I don''t even want to go to sleep because I''m scared. And I''m also a little annoyed that the show used to be *so* good and now the writers are resorting to terrifying violence rather than actually writing good stories for the characters.

Last year''s finale was so great and suspenseful with Izzie and George and left me wanting more! I re-watched the end of the finale last year over and over again because it was so good. It had a really great cliffhanger and was SO amazing. DH and I were talking about how great that one was today. Tonight''s season finale was just terrifying, scary, violent, and cruel. They killed people for no reason at all (they could have found creative ways to write people off rather than just shooting them in the head). It wasn''t suspenseful it was just SCARY. I couldn''t wait until it was over and I couldn''t delete it off my DVR fast enough.

I wish the writers would go back to writing funny, enjoyable medical stories rather than showing violent shootings (and really? After what happened to Derek and the trauma him and Meredith just went through they couldn''t even leave Meredith pregnant??). If I wanted to watch a scary show I would watch CSI or Law & Order or something else about murders and killing people. Not Grey''s Anatomy!

Now I''m off to try to go to sleep and I will probably have awful nightmares.

I agree. I also thought last years Grey''s Anatomy was awesome. I had trouble falling asleep after the show too! I thought they were going to leave off with a cliff hanger when you heard the last shot at the end. But they didnt!

I had to change the channel for a while when he shot Dr. Percy in the bathroom. Hearing him say "no, no please, no". That''s just too sad. It was the most violent episode and was very disturbing! I did not like!!!

So I was right. After spending the last several hours tossing and turning unable to fall asleep I gave up trying. Every time I closed my eyes I replayed another scene. Today is going to be an exhausting day after getting only 15 minutes of sleep the whole night... Stupid Grey''s Anatomy writers.

I don''t watch it, but somebody tell me what happened! Lol.
MP, a man whose wife was determined to be brain dead after a stroke by Dr. Sheperd, was unplugged from her life support according to the stipulation in her DNR. That was quite a few episodes ago. The man came back to the hospital with an attorney a couple of episodes ago to try to sue the hospital and Derek for killing his wife. He just couldn''t accept her death. (They didn''t kill her, they were just following her advanced directive). Last night, the man came back to Seattle Grace with the intention of killing Derek, but killed anyone and everyone who crossed his path. If someone said they were a surgeon, they got shot at point blank range. It was an awful two hour blood bath. There was so much blood and human devastation last night that it was hard to believe we were watching Grey''s. It was more like watching a god awful war movie. I guess we all had a similar reaction. I couldn''t watch it without almost constant tears. It was really too much.

Of course they wove unfinished story lines throughout the episode, but the regular cliff hanger type story lines were buried too deeply in all the spilled blood and death.

From a writer''s point of point, I guess Shonda Rhimes thought she solved the problem of what they should do with all of the excess Mercy West people that were still hanging around from the merger of the two hospitals, but really, I think they went way the heck too far. What we saw last night, wasn''t regular television. I''m going to be curious to hear and read what the critics have to say.

While there was no major cliffhanger, I do think there''s potential left for a really good season next year. Every one of the surviving doctors was affected by this, some more than others (think Bailey and Christina). Next season we''re going to see them deal with their grief and the mental trauma that they experienced (PTSD anyone?) which can cause significant personality changes. Typically cautious people become reckless, reckless people become super cautious, etc.

I do agree that while the events that unfolded were horrifying, I think they did a really good job at showing how unpredictable a situation like that is, not so much the situation, but how the mind of the gunman works, the god complex, he can pick and choose who he wants to kill. He went in intending to kill 3 particular people and ended up killing numerous other innocents. What went on in his mind that said yes, kill her, no don''t kill him. We saw things like a b*tchy attitude from Reed as being her downfall, a lie from Bailey being her saving grace and a kind act like Callie giving him bandages as the catalysts for some of these decisions.

I really expected one of the main stars to go, but just because they''re not immediately gone as in dead, doesn''t mean they wont be early next season. Who knows how these events are going to affect the next season. For example, Derrick could be SO affected by this that he quits being a doctor or drives him to drink, whereas this could be what really turns around the Chief and allows him to conquer his demons.

Did anyone else think the SWAT team was completely useless? I get that there''s protocol in these situations that they have to follow, but aren''t there also shoot to kill orders when there''s a gunman taking out large numbers of people? There were like 10 opportunities where they could have taken out the gunman, yet the only chose to fire once and they didn''t even shoot him in the shoulder of his gun hand. Obviously it was to keep the story going, but still....

I only watch GA sporadically, so I probably didn''t have the emotional investment that a "regular" might. To be honest, I liked it. I thought it had a number of great story line and opportunities for the actors to show their chops. The writers/editors did a better job of conveying the chaos that would have existed in a situation like that than many of the crime shows. You also got to see a bit of the core of the main characters and, like HH said, how that core affects the outcome. The Bailey story line is the one that will stick with me -- we already knew she was driven by strong values, to see how that played out with a dying Dr. Percy, being honest with him about his death when it would have been so much easier to keep pretending/believing that the situation would miraculously change -- I thought that scene was extraordinary.

LOL!!! Me too! I was drifting before that but that vomit-torium shut me down for good. I can''t believe its still on the air! (Or Desperate Housewives either ... UGH)

I agree that it was hard to stomach. Still, I am not so quick to denounce it. The problem for me this season is that I have ceased to truly care about most of the characters. They brought in too many new people and have not spent enough time with the ones that brought me to the show in the first place. But by using this HORRIBLE situation and set piece, it did what they have not been able to do all season- make me care again.

HH- Totally agree about SWAT.

Some great things about this episode:

Christina and Meredith- These two are really the great love story of the show IMO. This episode just reinforced for me how beautiful and strong a female friendship can be. These two literally had each other''s back in the most terrible moments of their lives. All of their scenes together were brilliant.

Bailey- She chews up every scene.

Elevator scene with Christina and Mr. Clark: Amazing how something so subtle can be so powerful. Watching the two of them descend quietly in that elevator, Christina focused on her heartbreak, not realizing how very close to death she is, not realizing that the man standing behind her has a gun and is terrorizing the hospital while you could FEEL him deciding NOT to kill her. Wow. And I thought it was interesting that of all of them, the one that would have been most likely to be "b*tchy" to a stranger was Christina and she was so lost in her heartbreak that she didn''t have the energy to be herself.

Avery- This guy rocks. Love him. I am pulling for him and Christina btw.

The voice-overs. They usually bother me, but this time the dialogue was spot-on and enhanced the episodes rather than sounded sappy.

Things that were bad:
It definitely felt like a ratings ploy to use this scenario and to also be so violent. I can''t watch that kind of stuff and almost turned it off.
Agree with whoever said it was kind of an easy way out to kill off the Mercy Westers who have been noticeably absent from any real scenes lately.
Owen/Teddy- Figure it out already. He''s painful staring off whenever anyone asks him how he feels is getting old. And I like Teddy except with Owen- she becomes whiny and pathetic.

Set-up for next season:
I think Derek will step down or be incapicitated for awhile and Webber will be Chief again. As he should be.
As sad as the m/c was, I like that it sets up some potentially funny stuff for Meredith and Derek. Now that she knows she might want to be preggo, let the fun begin of TRYING to get pregnant.
Alex/Little Grey/Sloan- I like this triangle. I think Lexi belongs with Sloan (and knows it) but she''s not going to leave Alex now.

Hopefully next season will go back to concentrating on our core characters. And bring back the funny!

Somehow I missed whay happened with Alex. Was he still alive at the end?

A posting on another forum I frequent suggested that Meredith didn''t actually m/c and will get caught up in her grief and not realize she''s still pregnant. Not sure about that considering they said she had blood running down her thighs, but it could be a new twist...

Yes he was (though in critical condition).

Ah, thank you. I saw him talking to "Izzy", but missed the rest.

I was more disturbed by the unbelievable drama (seriously, a SWAT team could not possibly be that innefective) than any of the shootings. I started watching Grey''s several years ago because my mom liked it and I enjoyed talking about it with her. It''s gone downhill as cast members have been written off the show--I feel like the writers are in a sticky situation where they have to write an ubelievable story line in order to write off a character. This seemed to be the epitome of that: the plot was completely unbelievable and the outcome is that many characters have been written off. It was definitely intense, but it just felt like desperate writing.

Yeah, like when the shooter got shot just once, in the shoulder and then managed to elude them for another hour (on screen)??!!

I had a tremendously hard time with the SWAT team being as ineffective as they were portrayed. In fact, I think that part was un-believable. Was that the only way the writers could fill two hours worth of programming? There were so many opportunities for them to drop the shooter very easily. When they did shoot him once, and then told Lexie to go-go-go, what did they all break for coffee? Once she was out of the hallway, they had a clear shot.... So dumb.

And when Callie handed the shooter two packs of gauze, the shooter was not holding the gun by the handle and trigger, he had it laid down in his hand. Callie laid the gauze on top of the gun. Did anyone else besides me hear a voice in your head screaming "grab the damned gun!"? Dumb.

I definitely think, as someone said, that Derek will be on the mend for some time to come and that allows for Webber to take over again as Chief. I also don''t think that Derek will take that job back when he''s healed. I think he''s realized he prefers the operating room.

Despite the fact that Alex told Meredith in the last show that he was a duck, (walk like a duck, act like a duck, I''m dating normal, now I''m normal), his true feelings came out when drugged up on morphine. He thought Lexie was Izzie and proclaimed his love and devotion for her asking her to never leave him again. I think Lexie will realize that Alex is still in love with his ex-wife and she will take up with Sloan again. Here''s hoping. It will make for some interesting story lines since Sloan is the man/child who will never really grow up, no matter how much he wants a family of his own.

I do admire the incredible bond between Meredith and Christina, and I also admire the respect that Derek has for that bond. In the episode before this, when Christina needed Meredith to talk to, and Mer & Der were in bed with the floor plans for their house in the woods, Derek saw the look on Christina''s face as she was standing the their doorway, said "I''m going to get something to eat" and got out of their bed making room for Christina to hop in bed with Mer. I love that man! He''s such a keeper for more than his hair and his gorgeous face.

I also love that Bailey finally broke down and showed she was human! Both the crying scene in Mary''s room and her beating up the elevator buttons to try to get Percy help were great stuff.

Great scene between Callie and Arizona in the end. They were *both* willing to change their stance on having kids in order to stay together. It shows that willingness and compromise works, and love wins in the end! I''m glad they''re still together, or so it looks.

What I really objected to during the whole two hours was any time the writers took advantage of the viewing audience with stupidity- like the ineffectiveness of the SWAT team. I hate when writers take it for granted that we''re all a bunch of dunderheads who are hooked on the show and we''ll watch, no matter what.

Ditto to Gemgirl.

I''ve been very casual with this season and last night''s episode hit me hard. I was NOT expecting what happened to happen. WOW! So glad that my favorite characters were still in tact at the end of the show. I don''t think that they would kill off Derek but man I lost it big time during the scene in the operating room when Meredith thought that he was dead. Pulling the contact off of his vital signs monitor was really a great call on Avery''s part. I think he will still continue to pursue Christina. Watching Meredith scream in pain was tough to deal with. Just like watching her watch him get shot. That stupid girl who came running out of his office needs to be offed, soon. Whats her name? Alicia? I hope she quits for good. Don''t like her.

Oh and I totally did not know that Katherine Heigl was officially done on Grey''s Anatomy. I thought she was just taking a break this year due to her adoption. Which I found a little extreme since both Ellen Pompeo and the actress who plays Lexi Grey were pregnant in the last year and didn''t take a whole huge break from the show. Then again, I''ve never had or adopted a child so I have no idea how much time I would need off in a situation like that.

If Grey''s final is this dramatic, can you just imagine what Lost''s will be like this Sunday?

thritto to Gemgirl and I like Avery too, I think he and christina would be awesome together!

Isn''t Jackson Avery just a delicious man? I can''t stop looking at him when he''s on screen and I''m probably old enough to be his Mom.

I worry that he''s too "pretty" for Christina

No, April. And yes, I could have killed her myself. Derek had the shooter talked down and she f*ed it up. Also, ditto Gemgirl. My FF was so infuriated at the way the portrayed the SWAT team. I''m sorry, but no. After Lexi was out of the way, that man would have been so dead. And assuming they had missed (highly unlikely), Callie had the opportunity to end it all by snatching the gun. You were definitely NOT the only one to scream that at the TV.
