Wedding "to time to order a dress"????

i''ve been looking for a dress for 3 months already and im kinda running out of time (im very picky

). im getting married in 6/7 months and every place i go they tell me that i have to make a decision asap b/c it takes awhile to order the dress; yet, i''ve been to a couple places where they told me not to worry and that they can always put the dress on a "rush" order.

so are they bulshitting me whenever they tell me there''s no time in order to pressure me to buy their dress??

would it be too late to order a dress lets say a month from now?? cause there''s a few more dresses i''d like to see..... what do u gals think?

Many places can "rush" a dress, but it will cost you extra money. If you don''t want to pay rush fees, I would order by the six month mark. Our wedding is in 6/7 months and I just ordered my dress. Based on everywhere I went to look (way too many places), it seemed like six months was as close as I could get without having to worry about rush fees. But I am sure it depends on the designer also. Have you found any good possibilities yet?

I think it depends on several factors. I''m going to use my dress - a Maggie Sottero - as an example.

1) Where does the dress ship from?
Maggie Sottero dresses come from Australia. I ordered my dress in September, but it''s not coming into the bridal salon until January. Personally, I think that''s WAY too long of a time for shipping to occur, but it doesn''t really matter since my wedding is in June.

2) How many alterations will you need?
My dress has a true corset back, which is fantastic because I can be lumpy or stick-thin and it will still fit me wonderfully. The salon I''m ordering from is Asian-based, and gets a lot of shorter brides (myself included, whee!) and they''ve made sure the dress I''m ordering will actually come in pre-shortened. This means I''ll need NO alterations, so when the dress comes in, I can pick it up and voila, I''m done!

3) If alterations occur, are they through the salon or someone independent?
I''ve heard reports that various places (such as David''s Bridal) can take a very long time to do alterations. If you take it to a professional seamstress or tailor, there''s a good chance the timetable would be shorter.

Personally, I would say take your time and find the dress YOU LOVE. Just keep the above factors in mind while you''re doing so... but as long as you know what needs to be done and how you can do it in time, you should be set.

My husband and I were only engaged 7 months before we got married, and when I began trying on dresses at 6 months out, I heard the same thing. I went ahead and ordered my dress (luckily I found my dream gown quickly), and the shop fussed about how it was such a good thing I ordered that early because otherwise it may not have arrived in time. Well, it arrived in PLENTY of time (3-4 months to go). I think that while dresses DO take time to order, stores often add pressure by saying "it has to be done now" because they want business NOW, not after you''ve looked around for a while longer. I think that 4-6 months is plenty of time. Now, that''s not to say you can wait forever. I do know 1 girl who had trouble ordering a dress that would arrive in time, but she planned her entire wedding in 3 months. When she started trying dresses, she was about 8 weeks out, and the store told her it would probably be impossible for them to order a dress for her, namely because she had so little time and wears smaller than a 0 (she''s very tiny) and would have to have even a 0 altered a good bit. She ended up buying a dress off the rack and having it altered.

i called this one place today and lied on the phone - telling them that im getting married in april, and they said that they can get the dress in by march!! this very same place has been telling me that it would take 6 months for my dress to get there (same designer). so i just realized that, ya they probably want to be safe, but they also add alot of pressure. they know that today''s brides have way too many choices....

i have found a few dresses that i liked but havent found 1 that i truly LOVE. i know the dress i want is quite expensive so im trying to look around still...

so my goal is to order my dress not later than a month from now. that''ll be 5-6 months before the wedding

Regarding Maggie Sottero...the bridal salon I worked for carried them, and they really do take that long to come in. I don''t know why, its not like China is much further away

...but they are lovely dresses, and well made for the price, which I cannot say for every manufacturer.
