Will you ever go back to wearing a modern cut diamond or since owning an older diamond, is that all you prefer?

Nope. I've collected many diamonds in various shapes over the years (rounds, princess, oval, asscher, marquise, heart - all around 1ct and ranges from D-H in color) and have not reached for any of them since I got my big L colored OEC. It's not just the size difference either, since I stopped reaching for them when I got my first oec which weighs 0.9ct. I love old cuts.

I don't think I'd go back (though I owned an RB for only about a week, but the entire week I regretted it wasn't an old cut). Never say never... but I'm saying never for now ;))

I won't replace my old cut, but I would like an MRB five stone or three stone. MRBs are uber blingy and I like that. They are also perfect, and I like that too.

I still love my MRB original e-ring, and alternate the wearing between it and my transitional anniversary band. But in terms of new purchases? I think I've fallen hard for the appeal of the enormous chunky facets. The only exception would be a fancy, where the color-intensifying appeal of crushed-ice radiant faceting might prevail.

I have/have had a handful of each... at the end of the day I'm just n MRB girl through and through. All my OECs are true antiques, not modern precision cuts, and the lack of predictability in faceting and light return drives me a lil' bit nutty :rodent: and my RBs have a more consistently-in-your-face sort of sparkle that never fails to grab my attention. I have OEC earrings now and I love them, in part because I do enjoy having a variety of cuts, but if I'd had a more generous budget I'd have chosen MRBs.

I never liked the look of a round stone on my hand. Now I know I just didn't like a mrb on my hand. I love looking at my granny, and I am definitely thinking of more old cuts for the future. I do have to say that I do still prefer my mrb for my studs. They sparkle like crazy even though they are being viewed from a greater distance, and no one is going to get close enough to appreciate the facet pattern.

I have both an H&A rb and an antique OEC, as well as an AVC. I have to say I've worn my "old cuts" much more than my rb since acquiring them; I still like the rb, but it just doesn't get me as excited as the chunky facets and color show of the older style cuts!

I just don't really love MRBs and never have so I'm not sure my opinion has any weight. But I adore OECs and many Tranny's. I don't think I will ever want a MRB on my hands. For studs or even a pendant, sure, there are many more of them out there and therefore why not. But anywhere I have to look at it, I prefer old cuts. And even for earrings and pendants I prefer old cuts, but like I said... since I don't have to look at them I am more flexible about it.

When we were looking I was opposed to getting a MRB, I hated rounds. I now realise that I just don't like MRB's. I would love to have a large OEC or tranny one day. The 2 carat that just sold recently on DB would have been a dream come true. I really wanted that diamond. We just aren't there in our fiances at the moment.

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I like both, for different reasons. I like the perfection of the modern stones and the charm of the old ones. It also kind of depends on what the setting looks like because I like for things to fit together as a "whole" package and sometimes that means one or the other is going to look better (to me) in that situation. For example a sleek martini earring setting=MRB but a fancy decorative basket or buttercup=OEC to me.

This is me too, except because I dislike princesses too (with a wild passion!), I thought I didn't like ANY diamonds. I knew I liked asschers but ended up not being able to find any irl.

This is my thought process as well!

I adore my new OEC! I am wearing it as a RHR and have my PR 3 stone on my LH w my MRB band. I like having the different types because they offer different things in a diamond. I have shape, cut and colour options and I love all of my rings! When I look at the OEC, I completely understand why the love for them -they are just so unique and special - the pastels, the bright chunks... ah!

There is a place for every diamond in my heart!

Yes, well said.

Totally agree !!!!!

I have been asking myself this lately.......as I have a transitnal diamond and plan on buying a cushion cut diamond, and i am debating chunky facets vs. modified cushion brilliant. I will probably go w/ the antique faceting, but was debating because my transtnl. diamond already has that chunky facet look......

Above a certain size, I don't think I will own a modern cut. The faceting of antique cut stones in large sizes is just PERFECTION. In smaller sizes, MRBs are still fine by me. I'd love a 5 stone U prong from WF or BGD or the like, with each stone being around .25.

I have a MRB, transitional, antique cushion, and an EC and love them all for different reasons but I like the MRB the least. My opinion is very biased because I see the round shape as too common and have a strong preference for large flashes.

I have ...
Modern cut cushions
August Vintage Cushions
True antique OMCs
Several OECs
Several Transitional
Several smaller MRB
Princess
Small Asscher

Ok .. I have a wide range of diamonds and I must say that the OECs and Transitional cuts steal my heart. I actually don't like MRB because the H&A look so strong for a lack of better word. OECs and Transitional are softer with beautiful flashes and they look so feminine. I also very much prefer my true antique cushions over my modern cushions.

With that said, old stones are not made equal. There are only a few of my old stones that I love above all - the best cut ones with great symmetry and facet patterns. I also have a few that are not as well cut and I don't like them.

In conclusion, my preference is for a well cut OEC and Transitional cuts - you have to dig and look. I was on a hunt to replace my OEC with a bigger and whiter one - I looked at over 20 one weekend and mine looked better than all of them.

I agree with this too... and like Enerchi, I like ALL diamonds  MRBs are still my fave though.

I still love my modern H&A superideal RB. But I can appreciate the comment that called them "Stong." I think if I ever went to a large round diamond like 9mm or up (and that's unlikely, given my small hands, haha), I'd prefer the chunky facets to the H&A. H&A is lovely up to a point, but it gets "up in your face" if the pattern is just scaled up and extra arrows aren't added.

I have OEC, European cut, and H&A MRB. I'd love to get an large old-cut fat marquise, someday. That with triangle sides or perhaps pears would be my pick for a really big diamond on my hand.

All of the opinions are interesting!
Since getting mine, I feel I have never had a more perfect diamond in my life, but it may be because it is small. I have never really enjoyed MRB's on me, but my OEC makes me love rounds!
However, I dont see me going back to modern cut stones, even in other shapes, which I used to prefer.

My husband and I bought my engagement diamond (a MRB) after I'd only been lurking on PS for a few weeks, and we sold it and purchased a transitional diamond ring a few years later after I learned more about old cuts. I'm a definite convert and don't regret the 'switch' for one second- if anything I have an illness that propels me to want an antique cut version of every fancy shaped diamond that exists! I'm crazy about the open culets and warmer colors, and I love the uniqueness and charm that these earlier cuts possess.

For me, I don't think I would ever go back to an MRB as a center stone. BUT, would LoVe one as a 5 stone or 7 stone or dbty. Something like an RHR, earrings, bracelet or necklace. I've never been a huge fan of MRBs but I do respect that they sparkle even when they are tiny. I love my OEC. Wouldn't trade it for the world! Well... But if we are talking about an OMB or antique cushion...

I don't think I'd ever purchase an MRB. My first engagement ring was a modern cushion which I adored, but after we split, it was hard for me to go back to it. I slowly fell in love with OECs and older cut rounds, and I just loved the broader flashes compared to the more splintered look of an MRB. When I helped my now fiance compare an MRB to an OEC, he also liked the OEC better. I've never been one to own multiple diamond rings, so I think my engagement ring will be the one and only major bling factor on my hand. It doesn't mean I don't admire looking at everyone else's antique stones! I'm loving all the antique cushions that are popping up around here!
