The HCA is used for elimination, not selection, so no way to say really as it can't take into account various other factors. Basically if you score 2 or under, even in some cases diamonds which score over 2 can be worth considering, you then evaluate using Idealscope images, trusted vendor input and ultimately your own eyes.

"the naked eye" is very subjective. How far is it being viewed from? Is it being viewed by a novice or a trained gemologist? What lighting?

As for HCA 0.8 vs. 1.5, I believe the creator of this tool designed it as a model to reliably predict performance. While it is one the best models out there, it can''t account for every possible variable, or error in those variables, etc to say with 100% certainty one diamond is better then another. Especially since personal preference also plays a key role which is why a physical inspection by you or the vendor is important. 0.8 and 1.5 are both reasonably high scores so one could say they''d both make very good candidates for a physical comparison to then determine which is best for you.
