We''re going this morning. He''s going to be sedated with Versed, so I''m hopeful the work will get done with a minimum of fuss. He wants to go "to a city" so after we''re done and the sedation wears off, I think we''re going down town. He wants to see some sky scrapers.

He doesn''t know about the appointment, because we''ve tried to prepare him before and I think he just has too much time to think about it and get apprehensive, so this time we''re taking a different tact.

Yesterday my older one needed to get blood drawn and I just took him to the lab after school and we got it done. I think he''d have been a basket case if I had told him ahead of time and he told me he thought we should not tell the 5 year old about his appointment.

Anyway, wish us luck! Hopefully we won''t need it, but hey, it can''t hurt!

Good luck today, I hope everything goes well for you and your son Lumpkin!

Good luck to your little boy. I know it will go well. I think these things are harder on us mamas than it is on them.

Monarch and Miranda, thank you. It went exceptionally well! Thank you again for your replies.

I'm really pleased it went well - you must be very relieved!

Oh, Maisie, you said it! I am very relieved. Thank goodness for Versed! And nitrous! The dentist was able to fill two small cavities on top and pulp out and cap one on the bottom, plus replace the cap on the other side that came off.

I wish I knew why he has so many cavities. I brush his teeth with an electric toothbrush and use kids flouride toothpaste. He drinks milk and any sweetened drinks sugar free. I do not floss because I can''t get my hands in his mouth that far so I guess I''ll have to get some kind of flossing tool.

Anyway, he let her do it all. She was super fast though. She did all of it within an hour. My husband went with us and stayed in the room with him -- I was too nervous to do it! I''m usually the rock solid one, but I couldn''t do it this time, and thank goodness for my hubby. He really came through.

Bless him, I think its great he was there with you!

I read something a while ago about childrens teeth and them having problems even though they are brushed regularly etc.... I am just trying to remember what it was about......

Was your little one premature or has he suffered from anything like pneumonia? This seems to be ringing a bell.

Nope, he was born on his due date and he weighed almost 9 pounds. He''s never been really, really sick, either (knock on wood and thank GOD!).

There was a perioud of about 6 months when I was working nights and my husband had to put the kids to bed while I was gone. I don''t think he was quite as diligent as I am about getting the teeth brushed. Our kids were hard for him to get to bed because he''s the "fun" parent and I''m the enforcer, LOL! I don''t really blame him for that, though. His work is during the day so he really doesn''t get as much time with them and he doesn''t want that time to be all about enforcing rules. He''s learned the hard way that they need us both to do that regardless of how much or how little time we have with them. He''s getting a lot better about that, and his time being unemployed was a blessing in that regard. But that''s a whole different post.

Lol! I like that - The Enforcer!!!!

I can''t think of a reason for the dental problems. I know my son has had difficulties but that was put down to him drinking juice from a baby bottle when he was little and its all sorted now.

I should have known better really......

Yep, sometimes we have to learn the hard way. I have a feeling that having these problems fixed will be the end of cavities for a little while anyway. If not, we now know how to deal with them.
