Back in 2007 I was given an eternity ring by my then husband. He’s now a very EX husband. I don’t wear my ring at all.

I’m now wondering whether to keep it as an investment or sell it. I have just spent the past hour trying to figure out how much it would even be worth but there are no comparisons.

I’d love to hear your thoughts ☺️

Details from the certificate:

18ct white gold handmade seven stone diamond ring featuring centre round brilliant Argyle pink diamond (0.15ct, 4P colour, SI clarity), six round brilliant diamonds (total weight 0.99ct, F/G colour, VS clarity) all channel set nto 7.0mm low half round band tapering to 5.5mm at base, polished finish. total weight of ring 11.23grams.

The ring was made by Percy Marks here in Sydney.

If you’re looking for an idea of value I’d just look for a comp for the single argyle stone. The rest is just metal weight and heavily discounted diamond cost. The style of the ring is very characteristic of the era it was made, and may be considered somewhat dated now. I’d focus on that one pink which is so rare and unusual.

The accepted view is that jewellery is never really an investment but pink diamonds are possibly the exception.

That pink stone looks beautiful- does it have a GIA report? I would be tempted to remove and reset that stone into something different if you think you would wear and enjoy it.

This.
The stone has no juju, good or bad.
If you’d wear another piece 100% reset!

If it’s an Argyle 4P and you have the certificate - definitely sell!

Is the stone certified?

I decided to sell mine. It is going into an Australian Public Tender soon. I am hoping to make a decent profit :-).

If it does not have an Argyle cert and laser inscription then it will need an origin report from John Chapman (Gemetrix) in Perth or locally Gem Studies Lab.
GIA is less important in Australia.

Dang. If you can prove what it is, I'd sell! That's enough to pay off a mortgage on a modest house!

Hold your horses RwS, it is 0.15ct, not the 0.99ct total weight.

I have no idea about fancy colored diamond prices, I'm just going by the website someone posted above that is selling .15's for almost $100K USD. (So perhaps a private seller would get half of that.)

For sure $50K wouldn't pay off a brownstone in NYC's Upper East Side. But in some less expensive parts of the US, it would pay off a decent chunk of a person's mortgage, or wipe out student loans if they had any.

This price is ridiculous.

What would be considered normal for this size? For a certified Argyle this color?

GIA: FVP and no clarity - Argyle 4P and SI2 (description Fancy Intense Pink)

Just an example - search many other Pink diamonds.

The GIA report the 0,15 ct with Argyle report.

94K for a 15 point pink, even from Argyle?
I strongly agree that 94K is ridiculous.
If it's 94K AUS dollars, that's still 64K US dollars - less but still ridiculous.

Pricing of FCDs is mysterious, but not that mysterious.
If looking for representative Argyle prices, that's a terrible example.

But then again that vendor is in Sydney.
Australia is known for sky high diamond prices.
