Hi All,
Long story I''ll try to make short. Went to a b&m store and looked at eternity wedding bands. They had nothing fiance wanted so we told them our specs - between 10-12 point princess cut, F-G color, VS1 in a 14k white gold setting. They delivered on all of this. The ring was picked up about 1 1/2 months ago. I noticed two weeks ago that the inside shape was not completely round, there was a little bit of a point on one end and the thickness ( not width) was noticeably thinner at this area.

Jeweler said this was due to the casting and no ring is perfect. I didn''t argue this I just asked if anything could be done with it. He took the ring in the back, used a tool similar to a dremel with a rubber tip on it and attempted to round out the point. I was not satisfied with the result and asked if it could be reset. He was reluctant to work with me on this issue and said if they did that then I would have to pay for a new setting. I said I understood this but I would expect to get credit based on the weight of the gold in the current setting. He refused to give me any credit. I can only think that this is b/c the owner gave us a price before he picked up the diamonds and said we got a "good deal" when I picked up the ring. He made it sound as though he low balled the price and realized he could sell it for more once the ring was made. ( personally I think this is b.s. though since he''s been in biz almost 20 yrs and based on that would know what his cost and retail prices would be).

I should add that the ring was independently appraised and I had good overall results, the stones met the specs we asked for. I asked about the setting itself and the appraiser stated this was a craftsmanship issue and to take it up with the jeweler.

What would you do? Fiance loves the ring, sees the problem with the ring but it has not been an issue since it has been sitting in the box and she has another month before she will be wearing it. At that point I think the imperfections will bother her. I''m not expecting a perfect ring but I dont'' feel my request is inappropriate either.

If I do decide to get the ring reset I will go to another jeweler and understand the price may be different based on the fact that I bought the stones elsewhere but am I wrong in that I feel I should get some sort of credit for the gold in the current setting? I''m not asking the world here, just a nicely shaped eternity ring. No special details like milgrain or anything like that.
I know a pic would help but unfortunately my camera doesn''t have a macro setting and I''m unable to get a usable picture.

One more question, other than going to another B&M , does anyone know if one of the sponsored jewelers on here would handle a resetting / recasting of the eternity ring?
