to buy or not to buy...

hello all,

i''m posing this question to all the jewelry lovers out there. i need your help... basically, it''s a "should i or shouldn''t i get it" question.

anyway, i was recently offered an authentic tiffany lucida engagement ring and set for about 30% of its retail value. i think it''s a good buy but i''m not sure if i should go for it or not. i actually priced the similar items separately using ps vendors and this set still comes out as a steal.

but i''m a little apprehensive coz it''s not something i really need at this moment (what can i say - i love jewelry

). paying for it isn''t a problem either sooooo i really dunno what to do.

oops. i meant to say matching band instead of set. it''s an FVVS2 center stone with matching semi-eternity lucida band. both are in platinum.

If money isn''t an issue ... why not? In the worst case scenario, it doesn''t sound like this is something you''d have trouble selling for a larger sum. And, in the best ... jewelry isn''t really something any of us "needs": it''s something we enjoy. If it''s something that will bring you pleasure to wear occasionally, it sounds worth it. I would, however, get the set professionally appraised and verified before shelling out any cash, just to be on the safe side ....

P.S. - Just so that I can envy you properly for finding a great deal, what is the size of the center stone?

thanks for the response. it''s a 0.50 F VVS2 center stone and the band has about 0.55 to 0.60 total carat weight. so the entire set has about 1.05 to 1.10 total carat weight. all under $4k.

do you think that''s a steal? i checked out tiffany''s website and they say that lucida bands start at $4800 plus taxes. a lucida solitaire for that size/color/clarity is about $7k plus taxes.
