Okay, so a lot of the homes we''ve been looking at are split levels, split foyers, or what some call raised ranch homes.

My question is to anyone who may have a split level (particularly a split foyer), how do you make the actual "split" area of the home look welcoming and "homey" rather than like a maze?

If anyone has pictures of their entryways, I would be *SO* appreciative if you''d share them here. I''m a VERY visual person and I don''t "get" things until I see them. And all I see now is opening a front door and being hit with a decision to either go up or go down, and I think there should be some sort of welcoming/direction-giving decor to help make it look more like a house.

Please help me!!

HI Fisher!

What about putting a nice table in the entryway? There are really pretty ones here.

Apparently the link won't work the way I did it above. Here it is again: http://www.homedecorators.com/index.php?folder=lp_entryway2&aid=ga.generic.

I forgot to add that since I don't live in a split level, I can't help with posting pics, but I'm sure there are ways to dress it up a bit. One of my friends used to live in a split level house and she just had a coat rack and an umbrella stand. I'm not sure she ad much room for a table, but it might just depend on how big the landing/entryway is.

Awesome! Thanks, I have added that to our favorites on the computer, in case we need an entryway table for our home. Thanks!!!

The wraparound home is my favorite, too!!

My parents have a split level. They have a Halltree at the landing. A large photograph of the whole family at the top of the stairs. Both the upstairs and downstairs walls are painted exactly the same which pretty much forced them to retain a pallette of colors for the entire house (slate brown, cream, dark red, and this funky blue/green color as accents).

Their house has evolved from Victorian/country, to French, and now to a more modern French. She especially likes the Halltree because it has a mirrored back, and a storage bench where she keeps things she would want (heirlooms) in case of a fire.

She has like a huge mantel above the front door where she displays a minimal collage of large things (vase, picture...)
Years ago she used to display lots of family photos all in the same frames going downstairs but now I think it''d look cluttered.

I live in a RR. I''ll take pics of our entryway tonight. We have a small plant stand and plant to the left of the door and a small console to the right. we have a large print on the wall over the stairs going to the basement and then other large art on the big blank wall over the foyer itself. We also have the same color paint (warm yellow) for the foyer and living room.

As promised, here are the pics of our foyer. Please excuse the laundry and old runner on the stairs.

Thank you so much for the pictures, Hudson. It looks beautiful! I like how you''ve added little plants, etc. to make the entrance welcoming. And what a happy yellow!!
