Tipping hairdresser

I'm sorry to bring up another tipping topic but I'm trying to do what's expected of me over these two months in the US. Anyway, I have a haircut appointment tomorrow (in San Diego). I understand that I'm supposed to tip. What's the going rate? The friend who recommended the hairdresser said she charges $65 for the haircut. How much should I give?

Here is a chart for most services that should cover you in the US.
Restaurants, Haircare, nail salon I usually tip 20%.

Mayerling, if the hairdresser you are seeing owns the salon tipping is not necessary and in fact they should turn the tip down but I am doubtful that happens anymore. Just an fyi. Hope you love your new do!

I don't think she owns it. When I went to the website to make the appointment, there was a drop-down menu for selecting a stylist.

20% is pretty standard whether she owns the place or not. If she doesn't accept tips, she'll let you know.
