Caveat - I live in Vegas so I always tip for almost every little thing, even situations that I don't think people commonly tip at (example: I've tipped at the car dealership service department).
That said, I do tip in this scenario. I only rarely order groceries (maybe 6-8 times total over roughly 10 years) but I've tipped or at least offered a tip every time; I say offered, because I've had my tip turned down twice by drivers who say they cannot accept tips. Some of the sites say that their drivers won't accept tips, but I still try; some will accept even though they aren't "supposed" to. I always offer in the hope that they will accept.
I've never had anyone turn down a tip, and do it in-app. What delivery services are you using?
I have also read about Safeway not allowing employees to accept tips. The store I'm getting delivery from is a Midwestern chain and I couldn't find anything online. I will tip them for sure. I've read that some people tip a % of the total or per number of bags etc.... We'll see how it goes today! Thanks guysMost recently Von's (owned by Safeway) where it clearly states on their FAQ page that their drivers do not accept tips. I actually ordered about two weeks ago from Vons for the first time and saw the tip thing on their page then. Previously, and this was years ago, I believe it was Albertsons I used to use for delivery. I *think* their site said the same thing back then too, and I remember for sure one driver saying he couldn't accept a tip, while other drivers just took it without question.
Incidentally, after tipping in every situation I can think of, I've only had one other person refuse a tip from me ever (and I've lived in Vegas for 16+ years now). Surprisingly, it was even a casino worker (not a floor person, though). I was at JCK just this month and afterwards in the Luxor for dinner after the gem show. A casino employee gave us directions but wouldn't take a tip for it (right in front of two of my PSer friends, so I even have witnesses, lol). So it does happen...
Sounds great! This driver did accept tips, so it worked out great!I would tip, $5-10.
I stopped attending church and tithing, so I tip and tip generously the hardworking people whom I cross paths with---I seek out the actual hotel maid who did clean my room (instead of her supervisor getting it) and tip her; I tip our waiters @25%; the guys who painted my house each got a $50 bill on day 1 of the job. Basically I try to make sure the *workers* are getting some decent pay as opposed to owners/managers.
