So 1 of the 98 0.01 carat pave diamonds fell out of the e-ring. It was on the platinum band. Her friend caught it while giving it a close and careful examination, lol. Talk about embarrassing moment.

Anyhow, I don't know if it's worth it to send it back to the vendor whose across the other side of the country. I'm wondering if it's easier/cheaper to just go to a jewelry repair shop to replace it.

But does anyone know if it could damage it when they put the pave on? For example, do they need to apply some heat/fire? The cost to ship the ring back and forth with insurance/fedex probably exceeds the cost of just going to a local brick/mortar store to fix it on the spot.

Thanks everyone

How long has she had the ring? The original jeweler may cover the cost of replacement and possibly shipping if it hasn't been long. For pave repairs on anything of worth I would always send it back to the original vendor. We've seen many horror stories here of people using local vendors and not being happy about the work only to find out that they have voided their warranty by letting someone else work on it.

I would send it back to the original vendor.

Seriously I wouldn't send it back. You would pay way more in shipping then the few bucks it would cost to replace. Do you have someone local who does pave? Or was this channel set? Regardless I wouldn't waste the money on shipping the ring back and forth. I have VC rings that my local guy has sized, tighten etc.

I'd probably just save it for now. If more fall out, send it back, but 1/98 probably isnt going to be very noticeable, and she will be without her ring for so long!

You just got it. Most places have a 1 year warranty on workmanship. DO NOT HAVE IT WORKED ON SOMEWHERE ELSE IT WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.

The vendor should pay shipping both ways.

Who was your vendor again?

By all means, please call your vendor and speak with him/her.

I will not make guesses as to what they will do or offer to do, but they should be given a chance first to step up to the plate. They will make your questions about any warranty or no warranty have a definite answer. You may end up being very impressed with their answer, and then you can report this to us.

Sadly, you might end up being very unimpressed, and you can report that to us also.

Personally, I will guess and hope and expect that you will be impressed, especially if they are a Pricescope vendor. Any vendor still doing well after the past few years of horrible economy should be working VERY hard to keep and impress current clientele.

Hi Everyone

I called the vendor and they told me they will repair the ring free of charge including shipping. I'm excited. I explained to them that although I held onto the ring for nearly 2 months, I just proposed to her last week and she barely wore the ring for a week before one of the stone fell off. It's not noticeable unless someone asks to see her ring and takes it off and scrutinizes it. Either way, I paid too much for it to have this happen so soon.

I gave it to her on Saturday night and the following Saturday night, the pave stone fell out. My oh my, now I'm seriously worried that I had 98 of these little pave's on there.

Thanks guys. I will send it back to the vendor since I can't trust any local vendor to fix it.

Ahhh! Happiness is. I am glad the vendor was stand up!

As for your comment about "paid too much for this to happen so soon."

Pave can be a HUGE pain. The vendor may have done everything right and the ring flexed just perfectly under the strain of picking up a bag of groceries or the slightest knock against a door jam. Or the setter could have lifted a bead as he put another over the diamond next to the diamond and was just waiting the chance to escape. It could be the fault then of either the wearer or the vendor.

This we can never know.

What we can, and now do, know is that the vendor is more interested in earning your trust and your business, that the minuscule expense of fixing the ring, quickly and promptly. Since he is footing the expense, you can count on him doing the "checking it twice" work before returning the ring.

Thank you for letting us know that you were taken proper care of.

Sounds like the vendor is doing the right thing to me! It's pave, loose stones happen. Make sure that ring is insured JIC it ever gets damaged beyond reasonable repair.

Pave is a pain in the neck.
That's why I do try to caution people away from it when I can.

I am happy the vendor is stepping up.
