Time from wax to ring?

Hello all! I have what I hope is just a quick question --

What's a typical/reasonable time frame from wax rendering to the finished ring being on the customer's finger?

I approved CADs this week with my (excellent!) local jeweler, and he hopes to have the wax cut next week. I don't want to bug him with an additional e-mail this week since obviously we'll be meeting very soon, but I'm excited about the project, antsy with the long weekend, and just curious as to what kind of timeline I can expect.

Thanks for your help! :wavey:

3-4 weeks in my limited experience with the same vendor. But I bet it varies a lot depending on the vendor, the workflow, and the intricacy of the piece.

Elmorton! Hey lady! I've missed seeing you around these parts. How are things?
(Sorry, I have no answer to your question but I'm sure lots of other people will.)

:wavey:

It really will vary greatly depending on your jewellers work load, a simple plain bezel ring will also be much quicker than a piece in two tone with heaps of pave.

I would guess an average of about three to four weeks for a busy successful shop.

Thank you all for the replies! I appreciate it.

(Hi Haven! Good to see you! :wavey: )

The jeweller I used for 2 rings took 6 weeks between wax to finished product... and at the wax point, I listed (and they documented) a few changes I wanted made - they never gave me a second revision to view either in person or by photo image - and when the 1 ring came back... it had to be returned to do the changes....

I hope your's runs smoothly but if you adjust anything along the way, be sure to VIEW it and approve the secondary changes.

Very important, great advice Enerchi, you really shouldn't be worried about emailing your jeweller to ask questions, they are there to serve you and it's so important that your happy with the final piece.

Oh Mike!!! I sure wish the place I went to believed that!! Any subsequent dealings with them (regarding that particular ring) has been such an intrusion upon their day. It was all flowers and roses when I initiated the process (although the first thing the owner spoke to me about was "You can't get a deal on internet diamonds, then expect us to work with them without a markup on labour"?! Huh - did I question your labour pricing??? no!), then especially with details that needed fixing, I felt like "3 day old fish" whenever I would walk in. Needless to say, I'm not patronizing them any longer and I sure don't enjoy my ring as much as I should. (It's also returned to the awful gray metal colour after its second rhodium plating in 7 months...argh) - - - But I digress.

MikeR - you sound like the dream vendor that we all want to work with!!!

Maybe Elmorton you can get MikeR to work on your project!

They sure sound like lovely people Enerchi, is that the same place that used glue to secure your diamonds?

I'm sorry to hear that your unhappy with the colour again, look on the bright side though, I suppose the grey colour makes your ring very unique :D

^^^^ haha Mike - yeah, "unique" wasn't the colour I was going for!  Yup, these are the lovely 'glue' people! If only more of the jewellry buying population in my city knew of their practices and the quality of the crap they pump out. I should have turned and walked out after that comment... but .... here's the kicker - it was a "FRIEND OF A FRIEND" that I was dealing with! Yeah - those things always work out real well, right??? I'm really starting to not like this ring. :nono:

But you sound like an amazing craftsman of jewels! Your work is TDF and you have a great common sense/customer service ethic about you. Hopefully Elmorton will find someone just like you :halo:

You poor thing, I see those friend of a friend deals every week, it happens in NZ too.
Don't let it get you down on your ring, just focus on the diamonds and the goodness they represent.

Thanks for the kind words ;))

Thanks for the replies!

No worries here about my jeweler or communication -- I've done custom work with him several times before, half of my jewelry box has been sized, purchased, or repaired here, and we've been working to plan this project for more than a year (involves matching OECs). I just wanted to check in and get some estimates here rather than bothering with sending a pesky e-mail over the holiday weekend. I appreciate the feedback, and now I can chill out a bit! Thanks again --
