Hi All,

I am planning to take a ring to tiffanys for resizing, I am not the original owner. I would like to know if they deliver the ring teh same day or is it delivered on a different day?

What do they do if my ring is not a real tiffany''s ring? Do they keep it.

I am a new bie so my questions might be naive.

I saw another post that stated that they ask for address of the original owner. IS that true?

thanks

Partha

Sorry, can only answer one question. If yours is not a real Tiffany, I believe they will refuse to service it, but I didn''t read anything about them confiscating the item.

As for resizing, it depends on whether they''re able to do it in-house. I brought in a bracelet that they had to send out to have polished, and that''s going to take a week. If they were able to do it in-house, that would''ve taken 24-48 hours. Best way to find out about the timeline is to call and ask.

It usually takes 48 hours to resize a newly purchased Tiffany setting engagement ring, if that''s any help.

Don''t think they can confiscate it, wouldn''t that be theft?

I don''t think they would confiscate it. However, they may remove or score a line through Tiffany and Co. as it''s considered forgery. I have never seen this with rings and such, but I did watch as a friend of mine took his newly purchased "rolex" that he bought from a friend to get serviced at an authorized dealer and they literally cut the case in half. He was pretty mad about it. They did give him a choice though: 1. they would destroy it as it was not a real rolex or 2. they would call the police for purchasing illegal merchandise. He opted to stay away from the hassle of the cops. I however was amazed that they had a tool that cut clean through the casing!! After that, they handed it back to him and sent him on his way.

I doubt that they would confiscate the ring, they may not even ask to see paperwork, but rather charge you for the resizing. Basically, if you purchased the ring there and it needed to be resized, they would do it free. If you came in with it, with no receipt from Tiffany & Co. They would charge you for it. If it is not an authentic Tiffany & Co piece, I doubt that they could confiscate it, but I am not sure how they would go about dealing with it.

Another option is to take it to another jeweller and see if they can do it. I have had a Tiffany & Co. ring sized at another jeweller, because I was there already having work done, and I asked that they not destroy any of the hallmarks. It was just going up one size and they were able to do it without destroying the Tiffany & Co and PT950 hallmarks.

I wish you well,

Bridget
