I went to do my own comparison of G/H/I on two VS1 "excellent cut" 1.59cw rounds as well as check their prices...I realize their branding premium and was curious on the reality. Interesting findings.

I - 62.6% depth, 58% table, 35.3° crown angle, 41.3° pavilion angle = HCA 4.7
G - 62% depth, 57% table, 35.3° crown angle, 41° pavilion angle = HCA 3.3

The 3.3 was a noticeably nicer diamond although not that amazing to my eye...more reflectance but was sort of dark. The 4.7 was kind of hazy. She agreed and cleaned them both...still a marked difference and still a bit "hazy" on the HCA.

Interesting.

How, that's crazy. I bet they still looked pretty good under their million dollar lighting system, he he. I can't even guess the amount, but still not NZ prices! Thanks for sharing.

We have seen others report the same thing in the past. Not just Tiffany, either. They have nice stones, but they do not have super ideal cut diamonds like we see here. That is the one thing (round brilliant solitaire) I cannot recommend people buy from Tiffany or other high end stores. If I am paying their brand mark-up, you'd better believe I'd want the high quality to go along with it! (And I do buy some Tiffany pieces second hand, but just nothing with round brilliant diamonds!)

Yes, I think it is absolutely true that Tiffany's and the like use much different criteria when selecting and perhaps cutting their diamonds. In the whole scheme of things, I find few if any people that are aware of exceptionally well cut diamonds in real life. We in PS land are the exceptions rather than the rule. Once you've seen and realized the difference, it's much harder to accept their picks. I do know though that you can request stones with certain specs and they will attempt to find such things for you - except at a much steeper markup than you can find things through other vendors.

And yet, Tiffany's still is a highly regarded vendor and they are still making lots of money. There is a particular draw to them and their marketing - that little blue box makes many hearts swoon! If you thought a diamond was just a diamond as many folks do, their stuff would probably being absolutely amazing to you. Perspective is everything!
