Experts please advise:

Looking for engagement ring with following specs. Trying to max out on cut. My gf tried on a .85 carat stone and it looked good proportionally to her petite hands. $5,000 on a stone is all I can reasonably afford
Thanks for the help!!

Thanks for the suggestions.

If I was to sacrifice one of the attributes and go a little bigger on carat weight, which one would it be.

She prefers channel setting (no pave or tapered bands), is there anymore in that style that are closer to the Tiffany setting?

Thanks!

oh boy, this one is a little tricky, I would do color and clarity... but there are issues, that has been discussed on Clarity, definitely clarity will drop the price down, if you can get a good eye clean Si2 but you would need to verify with the vendor... i'll keep searching for some diamonds from other vendors too,, but the color, you can also go down some, even J ACAs can be very white looking so those two alone can open up your carat weight significantly.

You could look at eyeclean SI clarity grades ( GIA or AGS) which have been verified eyeclean to your standards by a trusted vendor who has inspected the diamond. Alternatively unless it is important to you to get a colourless diamond, G colour graded as above will be extremely white and probably indistinguishable to an F colour.

Also you will pay a premium for a branded h&a diamond like A Cut Above, so unless you want a ' true' h&a cut then a non branded top cut diamond will be very beautiful without the extra cost.

sorry to be vague, meaning that there are many people whether it be cultural or "mind clean" issues do no want SI2, however I don''t want to pay a premium for something that i can''t see know what i mean?

how bout this, it is channel set with beads...

less

put pair it with this diamond.. over a carat mark! just a litte out of budget?

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-1982315.htm

or WF expert selection diamond,, but you''d have to check to make sure it''s eye clean and its a J, this will come under your budet paired with the setting

I would drop clarity all the way to eye clean SI and then drop color all the way till I get that preferred carat size. But I will never sacrifice on CUT, nor should you. To get H&A or not H&A? Only you can answer that.

What do you guys think about this one from Exceldiamonds? Are they as reputable as they seem?

They aren''t PriceScope vendors, but they are generally considered reputable. You can go to a .90 stone if you go to G VS2 clarity. I can''t tell enough from the info they have posted on their site. That is the disadvantage.

Here''s a .88 H VS1 at $4149, but you can probably find one in the .90 range at G or H VS2 for under $5000.

Thanks for the reply!

However, I would like to get the diamond and setting from the same place. I am pretty set on Excel''s Tiffany-style setting that was mentioned earlier.

How do you guys feel about this one?

I will call them first thing Monday. I am hoping to see actual pictures and grading reports before I pull the trigger. Any other advise?

They can probably source other stones for you that aren''t listed on the site. Just tell them you want ideal cut, .90 cts., and personally, I''d stick with G-H color. You should be able to get that with your budget! Good luck!

Ditto, cut to AGS0 standards or <2 HCA GIA Excellent.

Which of these two diamonds has the higher quality cut? Is the carat size of .80 compared to .88 negligible, or is there a definite size difference to the naked eye? I am leaning towards the .80 stone. Opinions??

.80 ct VS2

.88 ct VS1

Both beauties, but I prefer the .80

JAY151, DiamondSeeker,

I just wish to clarify and address an earlier statement (having received permission from the PS admin.), because I have seen reoccurring instances where it is unclear as to the level of information we provide for our listed diamonds.

"I can't tell enough from the info they have posted on their site. That is the disadvantage."

While it is true that we don't show up-front actual data for most of our listed diamonds, we also make it very clear in numerous places on our website, including each individual diamond product page, that we will personally inspect and evaluate any listed diamond on our website on behalf of our customers and all they need to do is ask via the form that appears on every diamond product page......that's it.

We do not blindly drop-ship any of the diamonds we sell and we have an in-house fully equipped diamond lab, where we evaluate each diamond and generate the actual data for our customers upon request, including actual magnified diamond photos, Ideal Scope results, ASET results, scan of original grading report, Megascope/Sarin analysis and more.

We do not charge for this service.

Thank you for your response Judah. Barry has been extremely helpful in this matter. I may have just found the best match with Excel...will update soon.

Hi JAY

When we were looking, I wanted the biggest stone I could get for our budget..so I got an H color SI2 clarity (very eye clean). With that said I was able to get a nice sz and also a beautiful stone that was eye clean and white (btw my H has strong blue Fluor and I think that helped with the price too)

Judah, why did you guys stop posting grading reports of the individual diamonds? At least for round brilliant, they are important as a first cut in the selection of the stones. As it stands now, I have no way of seeking out stones from your page. A simple way of doing this is to at least least the report numbers or link it to the repective lab''s report check.

SC,

Thanks very much for your observation and suggestion. We will definitely look into this.

Jay my boyfriend and I just purchased the Tiffany Legacy Replica from Excel and the ring is beautiful and Judah was very helpful. I have already written them a glowing review and will post it on here as soon as my boyfriend officially gives me the ring =) ha ha. My boyfriend let me see it when it arrived and it far exceeded my expectations! I would recommend them and good luck!
