My GF can''t decide between channel set or bead set. Are there any defining reasons that can be used to decide between them. Tiffs is bringing in a .88 and a .89 one is beaded other is channel.
Suggestions or reccomendations to pick one over the other?
They are different looks. The diamonds in the channel set would be more protected. However there would be slight gaps between the stones in the channel setting because they are round stones I''m assuming, not something like princesses which would line up perfectly. You wouldn''t see that in a bead set band. Both are lovely, just depends on her preference.
I have band style rings of both types and I prefer the bead set because I cannot see any gaps between the diamonds. I think it is just as secure. My ring seems to be channel set with tiny prongs (beads) as well. I have not had a loose stone and I have had several in my channel set ring.
However, my bead set ring is generally of better quality than my channel set band, so it''s not a fair comparison. Perhaps a better done channel set would also not show big gaps and not have loose stones.
I prefer channel set, gaps and all, as it's a sleeker and more modern look. I guess this doesn't really apply to you right now, but thinking ahead in terms of wedding bands...the bead set would go better with an antique-style engagement ring or one with a bead-set or pave band, and the channel set is a nice complement to a simple solitaire.
They are 2 very different looks. I personally prefer the look of bead set but channel is certainly beautiful and timeless----like a pp said, channel is more sleek and modern, so just a personal perference. I''m sure one style will grab her attention pretty easily.
I like the bead set better, more delicate and pretty. My favorite is actually the deco version with the asscher stones...but anyways... of the two you are considering I like the bead set. I don''t like channel set rings with round melee because of the gaps, but princess or asscher channel set looks fine.
If she has a delicate hand and has a daintier style, then I would absolutely say beadset. However, it all depends on her personal style (and yours too!).
I found myself in the same situation with those two Tiffany rings last December. My DF and I had a hard time finding bead set rings through their locations, but there were plenty channel set types.
We ended up going with a Novo, which is more of a pave look, but the centre stone is not a RB, it''s a cushion.
My favourite between your original two choices is definetly the bead set - I found the channel set ring there is quite a bit chunkier with regards to the amount of platinum holding the diamonds on the sides. Not that it''s chunky per se, but it''s not as delicate as the bead set.
I had a really hard time telling the difference between the pics on their site - I''m convinced it is the same pic! But at the store there is a definite difference.
Good luck with your choice!
