Hello,

I am interested in buying a second hand Tiffany Lucida and have a couple months to work with. The only ring that I can find is the following (nothing at signedpieces):

Tiffany Lucida

The asking price is $11,450 for 1.16 CT H VS1.

Here is the current pricing that I just got from Tiffany for new rings:

1.07 CT H VS1 $12,800
1.14 CT H VS1 $13,600
1.19 CT G VS1 $15,700

This EBAY ring is from a reputable source and I plan on using an escrow. However, it is only a 15% discount from the Tiffany price. What should I really pay for a second hand Lucida with this spec? My initial thought is the discount should at least be 30% or even higher, can anybody help?

Thanks.

you pay what you can afford. there are no real rules IMO. if you can get the seller to come down on the price that''s great and definitely worth a shot.

Since second hand is often things that are unique, it is not often you find average prices to compare to. Pricing is literally something that takes people years to figure out, and even then they can be off.

Because what you are looking for is very popular, and at least here in NYC is the average starter ring for a couple, you will find that the demand is always greater than the supply on such a ring and if you don''t pay the price for it, there is another couple who IS willing to pay that 15% less just to have that T&Co stamp on their ring. Personally, for the price difference, I would rather go to the store, drink the champagne, be fawned over and enjoy the fact that my ring will be coming from a luxury dealer with all the fringe benefits of knowing it''s real and authentic. I trust Tiffany way more than E-Bay, especially for that price. But that''s just me...

Now in your estimation if the ring is worth the price, get it, but I would verify that you are paying for a genuine Tiffany & Co Lucida because you never know...again the only safe bet is walking into a store and buying one.

Well, when they show up on signed pieces the discount usually seems to be higher than that (usually closer to your 30% threshold or sometimes higher for certain pieces). But Nicrez has some very good points, and it really is all about what someone is willing to pay. So you just need to decide if YOU are willing to pay that much.

I just bought a pair of Tiffany earrings secondhand and I paid slightly less than half of current retail, which for me was fair considering there was a bit of risk with ebay. I would be willing to pay more than that with a company with virtually no risk, like from SP.

Second question is have you CALLED SP? They often get lucidas in and would be happy to put you on a list and let you know if they get one in soon...

Called SP, no luck, but i will put in a request.

Any other buyer experiences on the secondary market?

Thanks.

There was a Lucida on their website last night, BUT it was like $25,000.00 for 2 + carat diamond. Yikes. If you buy an authentic T&Co. second hand or not, Tiffany will honor that purchase and they will perform maintenance on it, so even if it is gently used, you need only send it to Tiff. in NY through your local Tiffany''s and they will refurbish it to look like new for a charge. But this assumes the article is genuine Tiffany.

I agree with Nicrez. I personally wouldn''t buy from ebay especially for that little difference in price. There was a 1ct lucida on signedpieces a couple of weeks ago and I''m not sure what the rest of the specs were but the ring was roughly $9000. Hopefully one will come in soon but otherwise for that money, I''d rather buy from the Tiffany store and get all the benefits of buying there and enjoy the champagne!

What kind of Champagne does Tiffany serve? That may be the deciding factor.

I dont remember, but they gave us ours to go... I actually googled it when I got home, because I was quasi interested in that answer... It was a 1/2 bottle that went for $29 online... brand name forgotten however...

I can''t remember but D had four glasses the first time we went and three the second time! Nothing like champagne to calm the nerves

hi,

my fiance and i got my ring from tiffany''s in june last year.

it was an original tiffany setting, VH1 1.565 carats and we paid a little over $19,000 for it. i have the receipt for it.
we broke up and i have been trying to sell it but cannot get a reasonable price for it, so i would just rather keep it and re-set the ring.

good luck!
