Hi All:

We are currently thinking to choose between a Tiffany e-ring and Solasfera cut e-ring. The 4C we are looking for are: 2.2C, F, VS1.

Personally I have not seen the Solasfera cut ring and have heard so many good stories about it. On the other side, Tiffany is always Tiffany with irresistible temptation.

Despite the price difference, can anyone who has compared both e-rings kindly provide us some advice please?

Really really appreciated!!!!!

Hi Fifikiki,

Here is a video that compares round brilliants to the solsafera. I find that with different cuts, you realy have to see them in action to understand them - still pictures just don''t do it!

another comparison video, and another.

Many consider the cut of the diamond to be the greatest determiner of it''s beauty. A Tiffany''s round brilliant diamond will most likely be well cut, but well cut round brilliants are by no means limited to Tiffany''s. If you are dedicated to the brand and are willing to pay a premium , then by all means do so, but know you can get the same amount of sparkel from a well cut hearts and arrows diamond from any PS Vendor (and save a significant chunk of change).

There are a lot of different modified rounds out there, so you don''t have to limit yourself to the solasfera (unless of course, you''re in love with it).

Hope this helps a little

best,

HD

Thanks very much for your help!

But when you say " don''t have to limit yourself to the solasfera ", is there any other cut you recommend that would sparkle more than Solasfera please?

Any other advices please !!!!!!!!!

Thanks very much!

Hi Fifikiki,

Short answer:

It''s easier to get a sparkly well-cut round brilliant, and if you want a different looking stone, it is possible (but more difficult) to get a decent looking patented cut.

Long answer:

The sparkliest diamond is one cut with precision and symetry such that specific facet angles are achieved.
The standard round brilliant is well known and well studied (especialy by members of this board).
As a result, the very specific dimentions and angles for best light performance are known so folks here can almost guarantee you an outstandingly sparkly diamond based on dimentions and angles alone (which are available on a diamond''s certification). Just post the diamond stats and we can let you know if it''s a keeper.

I''m not sure if you''ve noticed in comparing a solasfera to a standard round brilliant, but it''s key difference is that it has 10 mains instead of 8, and so has quite a few more facets.

Some people confuse number of facets with light return. Many branded cuts have extra facets which are claimed to yeild a more brilliant stone.
There is a trade-off between fewer larger facets and more smaller facets.
Facets are like mirrors, they return light. If a facet is pointed in the wrong direction it won''t return light properly (this is why angles are important) and more facets aren''t going to return more light if they''re aren''t properly aligned.

There is a whole swarm of patented cuts out there, of which the solasfera is one (here are more patented cuts and even more on this chart)
I just wanted you to know you had many options if you wanted a round diamond. Lots of patented cuts advertise themselves as the most sparkly (including but not limited to The eighternity, The Star 129, and The Leo)

If these patented diamonds are well cut they should give you sparkel equal to that of a round brilliant, but as less is known about their ideal specific angles, it may be harder to pick out a good one - you''ll just have to go with your eyes.

If they all have high cut quality, round brilliants and patented modified round brilliants should return similar amounts of light. At that point, the difference between them is mostly esthetic in terms of facet arrangement - pick the one that appeals to you.

Hope this helps,

Both will have a different look, I would suggest viewing some Solasfera in person and what Tiffany has to offer to see which you prefer. The Tiffany diamonds will probably be like the Near Tolkowsky proportioned stones we often see here, so it would be very useful if you could compare both types in person, that might make the decision easier.

HD, you did a great job!!!

Hi HD: Really appreciate your reply and you have been really helpful!

Thanks very much!
