I''ve found a Tiffany Round Diamond in Platinum channel setting 0.55 carat, G colour VS1

priced just under £4,000
is this good value?

I have looked on excel diamonds and see that i can get cheaper replica set. for prob around £1,000 cheaper.

Hard to say whether it is good value, since value is all relative. When you buy at Tiffany, you are paying for the brand. Please check the stone on HCA to make sure it is a good performer. If it is, and you are happy with the ering, then I say go for it. There is little question though that you can get much more bang for your buck (bigger stone, etc) if you buy online elsewhere.

Like any luxury brand, you''re not choosing them for "value." Paying you full price gets you that Tiffany name, so it all depends on whether or not that''s important to you.

I''m not bothered about it being Tiffany and neither is the bride to be.(i think)

However after being in the shop, i did get sucked in by the whole experience. Those rings really sparkle (in that light)

I love the style of ring. I''ve been looking elsewhere but the only one i have found that is as nice and similar is as an replica tiffany. (doh)

Do you know any that are similar, i.e channel setting on platinum with round diamond.

I''ve seen the ones on blue nile but they don''t do it for me.

I think that is way too expensive!

My bf recently bought me the same ring (off ebay though) 1.01 ct (total weight 1.36) colour I, VVS2 for £3100! In beautiful condition too, the ring itself is less than 2 yrs old, worn for ~1yr.

Just to compare what you could get for your money, my brother recently bought his fiance an e-ring too, don''t know the exact specs, but its ~1ct G/H colour I think and VS1/2 (can''t remember) in platinum for £4000! Also a beautiful sparkly ring.

I''d keep looking if I were you

I personally bought my FIs ring from excell, and we couldnt have been happier with the product. Excell has one of the best tiffany replicas out there. Whiteflash has some nice ones as well. When buying from tiffany, you pay for the name. DONT GET SUCKED IN BY THE LIGHTS!!!!! for your 4000 pounds, you could get a much bigger better stone for a beautiful ring at a much lower cost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the end it comes down to is the name important to your fiancee. Or even how often will she be going around showing her friends how do you like my ring from tiffany, instead of how do you like my stunning ring?? I would personally go for the bigger stone and the replica as you can't tell the difference and it is still a STUNNING setting!!!!! you can always search my name to see pics of the ring.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

sparxs111...lovely ring by the way.

I am leaning towards going with Excel Diamonds due to them having the same style i want.

The cost saving would be great, only thing is i''m from the UK, not surely about delivery and costs. Repairs or re sizing issues.

I know she wouldn''t want a big ring so money saved, is going towards house or wedding.

Ahhhh looking to propose in December feel like time is just slipping way.

Think i''m going to try to speak to barry from excel and get some help.

(Tiffany its a recession where''s the 50% sale ...ha ha)

Totally understand (about the house and wedding thing too...after the ring those were my other ulcers!!!!!). I am from Canada and had the same concerns about shipping and customs. In the scheme of things you can take a ring to any RECOMMENDED jewler and get things sized. It will still cost money at excell after the initial sizing so why bother sending it back to the US. As for customs and such do a search on the forum as there have been discussion about shipping to the UK in the past so it may be an eye opener and help with the decisions.

Even with customs I believe people have stated that it is still cheaper to go the internet way.

Good luck in your search!!!

i think Vat and duty tax are 20% ....this starts to eat into the saving.

Pricing like for like (i.e colour size clarity and style, not measurements) between Tiffany and excel...the price difference is slightly over £1,000.

1/4 of the price.

I''m in New York in December as part of the proposal, but don''t want to leave it that late.

I would still need to pay 20% tax unless i don''t declare it, but then i can''t insure it.

I don''t think I have EVER asked anyone what brand their ring is. Get the replica and I think she will be thrilled!

just got back from Tiffany after viewing the ring again.

Cut: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Polish: Very Good.

The polish disappointed me a bit, have i turned in a diamond snob? i was expecting Excellent. Is polish something i shouldn''t down grade on?

I saw some of the measurements, depth was 60. something.....but i think i saw table as 40. something

Surely it wasn''t the table measurement i saw, maybe pavillion angle maybe?, it was a quick look.

The sales person very nearly got me. But i''m thinking about it over the weekend.

Also for the first time saw it up against the wedding band (channel) it looks stunning.
