Hi all,

Trying to find a nice shiny rock for the girlfriend, long overdue so it needs to sparkle ;)

Looking at about a .75 carat round diamond set in a claw platinum solitaire size J. The carat size constraint is due to her preference so want to get something that stands out at that size if I can. I will be having the diamond mounted locally so just after the diamond. Identified a few via the search here.

One that stands out for me is this, 0.745 ct G VVS2 A Cut Above H&A:

And also 0.772 ct G VS1 A Cut Above H&A:

http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/A-Cut-Above-H-A-cut-diamond-191620.htm

And 0.786 ct F VS1 A Cut Above H&A:

I think they all look nice and every one is a lot better than anything I am seeing in stores here in the UK. Been putting this off too long, so help me put a smile on her face :)

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Larry,

Any of those would be lovely!

May I ask, is there a special reason for the high clarity?

I personally would pick the G VS1 out of these three, but you could even go down to VS2 and be safe.

p.s. Love your title!

Don''t ask me why, but I tried one the other night out of desperation (I JUST didn''t want to say one more time my puter wouldn''t allow me to do that), and it worked.

Totally.

Heya Ellen,

No real reason for high clarity, just with a budget $4000 and around .75 these were the better looking ones popping up. There is also a niggling worry about nasty visible flaws that I know is unfounded for these but its still, almost expect to look at it with my eyes and see red marks and circles as on the certificates staring back at me ;)

Another one I seemed to have missed was this 0.771 ct F VS1 A Cut Above H&A if it is any better than the others:

Maybe should try and get on the upside of the 3/4 as opposed to below it, and yes i feel like i have a big grandfather clock ticking over my head :)

lol The grading reports always make stones look worse.

Honestly though, a VS2 will be totally eyeclean. Once in a blue moon you get one that isn''t, but that''s truly rare. I actually have a .58 SI1 stud from WF that is not only eyeclean, I can''t find the inclusions with a loupe.

This F you picked out is of course nice, but here''s my pick. It''s a G, and it will look white at all angles (I have a 1.4 G), and VS2, which again, should be totally safe. You can have them check it, and they will be very honest, and are also picky.

But you couldn''t go wrong with any of these.

Thanks for the comments there! The clock went BONG and I went for the F. I will put a piccy of it and the ring up when I get it made, though will no doubt be asking questions then too. :)

Been meaning to do this for over a year starting in B&M then on to looking online and reading forums for the past couple of months, always ending up with the "analysis paralysis" problem getting in the way and stopping me from making a decision. Decided this morning I had to just do it! The silence after the clock went bong is more eerie than the ticking though...

Fingers crossed it all goes well!

Happy as Larry

BLING BONG!!!! I know you will love it!!
