I am in the process of buying a three-stone e-ring for someone with a 3.75-4 finger size and am concerned about buying too large of a center diamond. I want to use Round-Brilliants as the stones and like the 1:3:1 proportioning for the sides. For the setting, I will probably go with something like WF's standard 3-stone setting.

Originally I was looking at center stones in the 1.35-1.45 ct range, but now I am questioning if those would be too large. Any thoughts? I don't want the stones to sit very proud on the ring, I don't want excessive overlap of the center stone with the sides, and I don't want the side stones to be pointing excessively off the vertical axis (I realize I am not defining what is excessive here, but at least you get an idea of my concerns). Baiscally I am worried there won't be enough room on her finger and/or that the setting and band (for larger stones) will not scale well when reduced to her finger size.

Does anyone have any thoughts here on a good size center stone (with the sides each 1/3 the weight of the center) for a 3-stone ring on a finger size of 3.75-4? Pics are always welcomed.

Thanks

I wear a 3.75-4 and used to own a 1.5 center that I was going to set with either pear or round sidestones. I think the center stone size you are considering would be perfect..

Thank you heb, those are some great threads.

Hello,
I happen to have the same ring size (4) as your lucky lady so I tried on an engagement ring with a center stone within the range you specified (this one has a 1.38ct center stone) with two brilliant diamond side stones and took a picture and attached it to the reply. I don''t think this size would be too big at all, but you''re absolutely right for checking. Do you intend to buy the stone and mounting online or in a store?

I hope this helps!

Hershel Niamher, thanks for that great pic. That gives me a lot more confidence. I am not sure if I am going to buy in a store or online yet. I posted this question, as when in the store, all the sample bands that they drop a stone into are for larger fingers and I was just not sure how things would scale when the band was reduced to a size 4. Do you have an opinion on store/online for a situation like mine where the finger size is quite small?

.... I think also because I am looking at stones around 1.4, many brick & mortar stores have limited selection in 1.4 ct weight range. A brick and mortar store told me today that 1.2 ct was the absolute max center diamond weight that would look good in a 3-stone setting on a finger size of 4. I wasn''t sure if I should believe him or if he just has limited selection in the 1.3-1.4 range.

1.4 might be a little harder to find local or online b/c it''s close to the 1.5 pricejump. the salesperson probably didn''t have a 1.4 in to say something like that. we''ve got gals on her with 3+ carat center stones and sidesstones that wear size 3 1/2 so, like I said before, the size you are looking at will be wonderful and not too big at all. you could even go bigger if you really wanted

Hi Samboy, I also think it''s a matter of your girl''s style. For me, I prefer simpler things, so a 3 stone ring with a 1.4 center AND two side stones at about 0.45 each would definitely be overwhelming (ring size 3.5-4). But hey, that''s just me, and I can''t speak for your gal.

Good luck!
