I'm considering buying this diamond to set in a white gold or platinum setting.

Its weak points seem to be the following:
1. Thick girdle
2. Color H
3. All three inclusions are in the same area (of course, I can't tell their respective depths in the stone from the report).

The price is right, just under $16K.

I guess it boils down to this question: if it were your $16,000, would you buy this stone based on this report alone?

nope. i wouldn''t buy any diamond based on a report alone.

you need to either see it yourself, or make sure you trust the dealer who has it to tell you honestly what the inclusions are like and where.

Oh, I skipped this post because I thought it was a RB.

For an EC, I would never buy just based on paper. I would use the paper to eliminate the duds, then go from there.
1. H colour: You just have to see it for yourself whether H is white enough for you in this size
2. Thick girdle: Really isn''t too bad. At least it is better than v. thin
3. Inclusion: You just have to see for yourself if it is acceptable. Ask the jeweller to be upfront with you about it.

For me, part of the charm of the EC is also the shape (this one looks like it''s a long skinny EC), step pattern (pictures, please

) and light performance (Idealscope picture). Don''t forget >10% crown height for FIRE!

I wouldn''t worry too much about the inclusions in a VS1, and many thing that step cuts in an H color are fine.

However, ditto what the others have said. You really really need images for fancy cuts. Am I seeing the depth right, 55%?? If so, this is really too shallow.

The depth is 65.2% (not 55.2%--I shrunk the scan of the report and it came out blurry). Just a tad deep for a class II cut but since the girdle is thick, I think that the angles won''t be affected all that much. Right?

65 is better than 55, but you still need images...really can''t say *anything* about the stone without them.
