Hello,

I would like to get everyone’s opinions on how these settings would look if I were to replace the side stones with light blue diamonds. The bands would be in 14k gold because I can''t afford plat ha-ha. Barring any problems with the heart image (discussed in my other post) the center stone would most likely be a .595 D VSS2 stone. This idea is also based on the assumption that the bands prices will be lowered accordingly due to my supplying of the diamonds. But regardless of the projected costs, how is this idea? This ring will be a huge surprise so I can not get any input from my gf, but I know sky blue is one of her favorite colors.

Thanks for your time and input,

I think blue diamond melee is rarely used, and I''m pretty sure it''s because the blue is pretty hard to detect in small stones- and blue diamonds are pricey. Also you can''t set blue diamonds in a metal that will enhance the color, like pink diamonds in rose gold.

I''d go with sapphire or some other type of colored stone, or perhaps irradiated blue diamonds (though those are usually deep teal colored) to get a noticeable color, and to make it affordable.

Throwing out affordability and for purely aesthetic reasons would the light fancy blue - fancy blue diamonds accent the ring, or take away attention to the main setting? Now granted the side stones are fairly tiny - roughly .04 carats each in one ring and .07 carats each in the other, but I would rather the blue not be too overwhelming, more of a subtle look that you can see close up, or at the most typical arms length. I would also like to stick with strictly diamonds.

If in general blue is hard to see in the small cuts, would a fancy intense or vivid blue be more appropriate to maintain the above concept?

For the Exquisite the blue will be lost. I don''t the color will enhance the ring. For the duet, I don''t think the fancy blue diamonds can accent the ring that much. I like your color diamond idea a lot :) though. If I can afford the heavenly, I will go for 3 yellow diamonds on the left and 3 blue diamonds on the right :)
