Thoughts on upgrade size

We're in the process of upgrading my center stone. My current center stone is 1.34 and my finger is a size 6. I've always loved the size of my center stone but have always felt it looks small on my short, stubby fingers. Ideally I'd like a slightly larger stone but not one that looks huge and "gumball-like" (as my husband says!). I've found a 2 ct stone that I love, but it only looks slightly larger than my current stone when comparing them side-by-side (I'm having a hard time eye-balling how its going to look on my finger/in my current setting). I also looked at a 2.2 ct stone which didn't seem much larger than the 2 ct.

I realize it's a personal decision on what looks better, but do you think we should look at 2.5 cts for comparison? I'm not sure I want to go this big, but I also don't want to get the 2 ct stone and not see much of a change.

I hope this makes at least a little sense and I appreciate any advice!

Thank you!!

If I were you I would by a couple of cheap cubic rings in the sizes you are considering. Wear them around the house for a couple of days and then re-evaluate. Trying to figure out sizes with lose stones is really difficult in my opinion.

wow I am surprised you cannot really see a difference between the two. I had a 1.17 (that looked like a 1.25) and tried on a 1.64 and I could tell the difference.
I think 2ctw is a perfect size though! I just purchased a 1.5 but hope to eventually upgrade again to a 2ctw :)

Do you really think that your 1.35 looks the same size as the 2ct? Thats a huge difference in size! I know its hard to visualize, but 1mm is HUGE. I went from a 6.8 to a 7.6mm a while back on one of my various diamond upgrades, and it was a huge and noticable difference on the hand. I now have an 8mm stone and also had a 7mm stone on hand, and the difference there is staggering. So I think anything 1.75ct and up will be a noticable difference in an RB (assuming this is the cut you have). Whether you want to jump the 2ct mark is up to you.

I am wondering if the 2 ct. stone was just not well cut and smaller than it should have been? Because I have a 1.58 ct diamond and a 2 ct. diamond is quite a jump. In fact, it is too big for me!

Thank you everyone! Yes, I could definitely tell a difference in size between the two stones when comparing side by side, I think it's just hard for me to visualize it on my finger. Does anyone know where you can find cheap rings with various ct sizes?
