Thoughts on this setting...

I wanted to have a unique setting for my gf's engagement ring. I finally found something that I think my girlfriend will love and that is as unique as her, but the setting is far too small for the stone I will be putting in, so I am going to have a designer create one from scratch with a few modifications.

I would like to have this recreated in 18K yellow gold. I also would like to remove the bezel and the smaller stones around the diamond's base (but not the stones on the side of the band) to show more of the center stone and to allow more light to enter it. Otherwise, though, the setting would remain the same.

The stone that will go with the ring is a 1.24 ct round brilliant, J color, SI1 (eye-clean), ideal cut, 1.1 HCA, 1A AGS, etc.

I am curious if anyone here who has gone through a similar process has any advice.

Are you going to get sketches/CADs of the design before it's created? I had my setting custom made and being able to see the changes we discussed was invaluable, as I didn't like some of the things I had said I wanted once I saw them. That's my best advice...it's a lovely ring....

Hi! I think you may be able to find a setting that is already made that you might like if you're interested. I'm not sure what your budget is (Van Craynest settings are $$$$) but here are some:

Yes, that is the plan. I have been discussing the project with a local custom jewelery designer who will be providing some sketches before beginning.
