Sounds like the shopping excursion was very helpful and you have it narrowed down a bit more. I''m excited for you and can''t wait to see what you end up with.

That was great, Christian! It sounds like the engraved Vatche might be just the right thing!

Thanks so much everyone! I think I am going to go with the Vatche ring, but there is always the chance that I might change my mind

!

Here is an idea of how the setting might look, this is of a round stone with the X Prong, so it will be a little different but I think it should be close.

That''s the Royal Crown head, I believe.

Well the soon to be lucky lady and I went shopping today so that I could get a better idea of what she wants. She didn't really clear up what she wants, but she did make it clear that she doesn't like the pave rings. She thinks they are beautiful, but she just doesn't think it is the right look for her line of work (which is working for a non-profit in 3rd world global development). She is afraid it might just be a bit much, which I can totally understand.

She did let me know that she likes both the engraved rings as well as the more contemporary styles, like the ritani. ring.

Ahhh... see. It's all subjective. I think that the Vatche engraved X-prong is going to be fabulous. Unique, classic, and understated.

As for the crown royal... um. That has six prongs. Is yours going to have 6 or four?

I don''t have alot of hair to pull out, but the little amount that I have is not going to last long! It''s not that I am frustrated, I actually enjoy this type of stuff. It is just the sense of not knowing whether or not you are getting the right ring!

Well I think we have come to an agreement on what she wants. Ideally what she wants is the ritani ring (picture below) in 18K YG, but with the X-Prong setting in Plartinum. What are your thoughts on this? I realize it will have to be a totally customized ring, so it''s hard to know what it will look like until you get a mold.

Does anyone have any idea as to what I should expect in terms of price? I have never seen the prices for customized rings, so it is hard to get a feel for how much it could be. I would like to spend about $1,500 but I don''t know if this will be enough. Also, can someone recommend where I should go to get this ring made? Is Mark at ERD the best, or could James Allen, Whiteflash, GOG or any of the others also accomodate my request?

Let me know what you think. If the customized ring can''t be done for that price, I might just go with the engraved ring that I mentioned above.

Christian, I am not sure whether you can get it done for $1500. or not with diamonds on the band. You can certainly have the prongs done in platinum, and I would do that for sure. But it is not going to be an x-prong if you're setting an east-west oval. I'd recommend contacting Quest since so many people have had good luck with them. You want a band like the Ritani in yg (but it can't be exactly like it) and you want a platinum prong-set east-west oval. You need to email Quest and attach the picture of the Ritani. The x-prong is irrelevant because that is not the right prongs for the e-w oval. I'd also have the bezel around the little diamonds in platinum, too, I think.
