How do you think this would look in Yellow Gold and with an oval diamond set east and west? I am so close to purchasing it, but I want to hear some other opinions!

I like it... but you''d have to ask the vendor on how it would look with the oval set like that in there. I don''t think I''ve ever seen an oval in a x-prong before... but it''s a very nice setting. Good choice.

Gosh, I just saw those Vatche settings last night and thought they were really beautiful! You''d have to see if they could set an oval e-w in it, though, as I only saw a round and a princess set in it. Or have you already called and asked that? This band is on the wide side, so you''d probably go with a thinner wedding band. I can''t say I''d be as excited about it in yellow gold, though. I remember the discussion regarding color of the gold. What is her hair color and skin tone?

Hello Gypsy, I spoke with Mark and he said it wouldn''t be a problem to put an oval east west in this ring. He spoke with the jeweler and he confirmed that they could do that.

So you are not sure how it would look in yellow gold? The prongs would be in platinum and the rest in yellow gold.

I also found this ring on ritani...

She showed this one to me and I know for a fact that she really likes this, I am just afraid it may be a bit too expensive. I only wanted to spend $1,500 on the ring.

Another picture of the ritani...

As for her skin tone, she is argentine so she has an olive complection and gets very tan in the summer. Her hair is dark brown.

Well, those are two different looks! One is antique looking and the other is contemporary! So you''d better think a little about this.

Nevermind about my last post...I was writing it after Gypsy posted the James Allen setting and was interrupted before I could post it. Dark complexion and dark hair can wear anything, but I also have dark hair and favor the white metals on me. My sister has sort of golden blonde hair and yellow gold really looks better on her. However, it all boils down to personal preference.

Well she has told me that likes both the engraved style as well as the ones I just pictured. I think she is indifferent amongst the two. My only concern is that the engraved rings look great online, but once you actually see them up close it is much more difficult to notice the detail because the rings are so small.

I prefer the ring that I just posted as well as the ring gypsy posted, I just want someone to confirm to me that engraved rings look much better online than they do on your hand. Also, I haven''t seen many yellow gold engraved rings and I am starting to wonder if there is a reason

Does anyone have a feel for what the Ritani ring might cost?

You haven't seen many yg engraved rings because white metals have been in favor for the last few years and that is also when more antique style settings became popular. Waaaay back when I got married everybody had a round or maybe oval solitaire in a tiffany setting and wore a plain yg band. I know a few people who had wide yg e-rings. But I will tell you that my sister-in-law had a new custom setting made in yg because she is allergic to wg and therefore has a lot of yg jewelry. The engraving in the yg is absolutely gorgeous, no doubt about it. I'm just a little doubtful that the Vatche x-prong can have an oval set e-w, though.

ETA: I have no idea about the cost of Ritani, but I have a feeling I wouldn't want to pay for the name. It is a beautiful setting, though, and I like it much better than the James Allen setting.

I agree with ds2006, yellow gold is not really in style these days - That''s the main reason you don''t see much engraved yellow gold.
But it shows off engraving beautifully!

I really like yellow gold. I would love to see that Vatche in yellow gold and I think it would look beautiful.

I am more concerned about fitting the oval. It will definitely require work and a GOOD jeweler can do it. An average jeweler can''t.
I have an x-prong and I found out when I decided to put a different stone in it. Not just anybody can do it right.

I think if you get a new Vatche, you send the diamond to them to set. But it would have to be determined if they''d even set an east-west oval in that setting.

My apologies, Christian, for not reading the last couple of posts on your other thread. By all means get her yg since that is what she wants. She is lucky to have a skin tone that looks great with both colors!

I think that WF champagne setting would be lovely with an e-w oval, but unfortunately they apparently won''t sell it without a diamond.

Well when I spoke with Mark at ERD he said it wouldn''t be a problem to set the oval east/west in that ring. From what I have heard from Gypsy, Mark does a great job on customizations.

So I take it your vote is for the engraved ring with platinum prongs? That''s the ring that I picked out and Mark said he could do it for $1,400. The diamond is a G SI1 with VG polish and symmetry. I think it would look great, but then again my knowledge of all of this dates back about 2 weeks, actually Gypsy has been my teacher

The advantage to doing the vatche is that you could still wear a thin (2mm or so) diamond wedding band with it. I think that would be a pretty combination. I think I''d have to ask him for drawings on how that head for the oval would look, though, before I''d approve it.

I think it will turn out beautifully. My sister-in-law has a yellow gold band with engraving and it shows off the engraving wonderfully.

I thought of another style that I think Gypsy would like as well. This picture is actually with a round, and I am sure this particular setting is expensive. But maybe Gypsy or someone else knows of a similar one. I think it would be magnificent with an e-w oval.

I''ll see if I can post the picture.

That is beautiful, I just wonder if it can be had in YG for $1,500.

I think it would be possible to find a split prong similar to it, but that brand is probably on the high side. Mrssalvo has been looking at Daniel K split prong settings, so perhaps she knows who else makes this style. I think Gypsy mentioned one earlier (may have even been another thread) but the picture was hard for me to figure out. I just think I'd choose that over all the ones we've seen if a yg one can be found (or course a jeweler like Quest could easily make one for you if you have the time).

ETA: You wouldn't have to have diamonds all the way around the band which would help the cost.

How about this? Somewhat similar to the Ritani ring, and similar also to the Vatche ring at the top of the thread:

BTW, I think the original ring you picked out would look smashing in yellow gold. Engraving is very nice on all metals.

OMG! I LOVE THIS!!!

The details are amazing! LOVE IT!
I bet it would be beautiful in gold and oval :)

It''s funny that you posted that ring because that was actually the other ring I mentioned to the jeweler. The reason I chose the engraved ring is just because I felt like it was a bit more unique. The main thing with my GF is that she wants something totally different than anyone else and that''s why I am reluctant to go with a pave like setting.

I''d be just a little afraid that the wide pave band will go out of style, too. The thing is, they are going to have to completely alter that vatche x-prong (even the engraved one) to set an oval. It won''t be a Vatche anymore, really, because they probably will basically use the band and not the x-prong part. I feel like you could go to Quest, for example, and they could make you a 3mm engraved band with a head for an e-w oval for less than you will pay for a Vatche to be altered..if the timing could work. However, I still think that split prong is one of the most beautiful rings I''ve ever seen! You could get Quest to give you an estimate on that, too. I''d tell them to only put the little diamonds on the split shank part and leave them off the head and rest of the band and engrave it all instead.

Do you happen to have the website address for Quest?

Wow look at you go! If Mark says he can do the engraved Vatche with east/west oval and you like it AND the price is right I think it's a fabulous idea. At this point it's a matter of taste. Not my taste (and DS has me pegged to a T!) but yours. If you think pave is overdone-- then that yellow gold vatche with the engraving is the way to go since it will work with your oval. I can't wait to see pics. PERSONALLY, I like the vatche YG with Pave... BUT that's MY taste-- I like BLING. THat engraved one is stunning though. My taste isn't what counts here at all. I was able to tell you, "Yes," or "NO" with the diamond because that wasn't subjective or taste related-- that was objective. This is NOT.

As for settings other than the ones posted... you could go with adwar settings. I saw a spilt prong 18K with pave in it for 1100 in a store here and I'm pretty sure it was an adwar. Mark can get Adwar in too, I think. These are pre-cast setings so I'm not sure if an east west oval your size is going to happen with them though. I'll take a look, if you like at the catalogue.

I like both Vatche settings... the quality on them is good from what I understand and they are both lovely. Go with your heart-- with your gut. That's what she's in love with. And that, ultimately, is what this is about. Trust yourself. You'll have a gorgeous ring either way.

i like all of them..except the odd bezel ritani..hehe.

the vatche ones look beautiful and i think would be fab with oval E/W and that split shank one is just divine!

Hi Cburby ~

I love the engraved ring by Vatche

! It actually was one of the settings I was considering.

Although, I prefer White metals ... I think this ring in Yellow Gold is

I think it would be beautiful with an Oval set e/w!

It definately would be very unique and almost like it was one of a kind!

As far a yellow gold ... I have two ladies I work with that both have engraved rings and both are yellow gold. I think the detail shows beautifully on their rings. One ladies ring is more subtle than the other, but both are noless ... beautiful.

One lady wears her band as is. The other wears her''s with a thin eternity band w/pave diamonds. I think it''s gorgeous. I also think the Vatche engraved ring w/be so awesome with a diamond band of some kind ...

Good luck and keep smiling!

If you don''t go w/ the engraved band ... I think the pave ring would be awesome too!

I wouldn''t worry too much about pave going out of style. It really has been around for a long, long time.

I think the idividual is either a pave type person, or not. I on the other hand love both looks, but my sweet side loves pave ... so I obviously am partial!

Keep us updated ... and have a great day!

Well the soon to be lucky lady and I went shopping today so that I could get a better idea of what she wants. She didn''t really clear up what she wants, but she did make it clear that she doesn''t like the pave rings. She thinks they are beautiful, but she just doesn''t think it is the right look for her line of work (which is working for a non-profit in 3rd world global development). She is afraid it might just be a bit much, which I can totally understand.

She did let me know that she likes both the engraved rings as well as the more contemporary styles, like the ritani. ring.

Hi CBurby ~

Great move taking her shopping! I applaud you for getting to know what she likes, and will feel comfortable wearing.

Best wishes to you, and definately keep us updated!

Have a nice weekend!
