Looking for a square cut radiant and I was wondering if you thought this would be a good one to call in. Looked like it from the stats I viewed online. Thanks for any help!

Ask for photos of the diamond and an ASET image if the vendor can provide them, if not Idealscope is better than nothing. We can''t tell by numbers unfortunately, so see if you can get the above info, then we can go from there.

I wouldn''t be concerned as radiants are a shape that are unpredictable by the numbers, generally it can be preferred for the table to be smaller than the depth as this diamond has, also depth in itself doesn''t always correlate to face up spread in fancy shapes. Look at the diamond as a whole and evaluate with Idealscope, photographs and your own eyes.

That will tell the true tale. The numbers don't mean a heck of a lot, but as Lorelei pointed out, the table and depth are in the order that usually make for a better fancy.

Radiants are super tricky and the numbers really don''t tell the tale. I recently purchased a stone whose table was greater than it''s depth and it''s gorgeous! Here are the numbers:

GIA 1.01ct E VS1
6.51 x 5.38 x 3.41
Polish/Symmetry - VG/VG
Fluorescence - Medium blue
Table - 68%
Depth - 63.4%
Girdle - Very thick
Cutlet - None

There are pictures of it in this thread, both mounted and unmounted, if you want to check it out.

It looks like you''re working with JA on this stone. I know they are not able to provide ASET images, at least as of the end of June they weren''t, but they should be able to provide you with an IdealScope image. I''d request one. I know they will also ship stones (up to three) to an independent appraiser for your review. You may want to consider this as I looked at quite a few radiants before I found the one that called my name. It''ll be worth the work in the end, radiants are a beautiful cut and you don''t see them around much (at least not where I''m at).

Does anyone know wich vendors can do and ASET for a radiant?

www.whiteflash.com and www.goodoldgold.com can usually provide ASET images.

The diamond in the pic looks nice, I would check as to whether that is an inclusion at 4 o'clock in the pic on the edge.

Good eye, Lorelei! I saw the same thing. Maybe it''s a tiny little chip, or even a natural???

I was looking at the facet pattern on this stone, and it looks different than many of the radiants I''ve seen (mine included). It seems to have that princessy-looking "X" pattern, instead of the "cracked ice" look that many radiants have. I''ve never seen this before, but it''s pretty cool!

The numbers don''t present any red flags and my eyes love the look of this stone. It''s definitely worth pursuing for more information.

Irishgrrl - that was one thing I really liked about the stone was the different look. I like the "crushed ice" look, but I like this too!

I think that is a great setting choice, it would look great with a radiant.

I love it....I like this look in radiants much more than the cracked ice...my eye likes a little definition....
 
Just put a call in. They don''t do ASET images yet (as girlie-girrl mentioned), but they will do an IdealScope. I''ll post it when I get it.

This isn''t an inhouse stone, but at a partner vendor. They are going to check on that possible inclusion at 4 o''clock that Lorelei pointed out. Nothing is mentioned on the GIA so I''m hoping it''s just a bad photo shot. We''ll see...
 
Ideal Scope is in. Thoughts? I feel like there is too much white showing, but I''m new to IS.
 
Idealscope''s use is limited in fancy shapes, ASET is better, going by the photo I think it is a pretty diamond. I would be interested to hear the verdict on the inclusion.
 
The item that we all noticed at 4:00 is an inclusion. They said it is is indeed an inclusion, the "indented natural" on the GIA report. They also said it is "eye-clean", but this isn''t an in-house diamond which makes me nervous. They are going by the seller and not from seeing it themselves. Any advice on how to proceed next?

I was wondering if it was the indented natural. If you still like the diamond, you could ask them to call it in for evaluation, there may be a charge for this, but they will be able to advise you.

I can make an appointment to see it in person, which I think I''ll do since it won''t cost me anything. I need to do a little more research on indented naturals.

Here''s the question...Would the indented natural put you off buying?

Have you seen this page that talks about IdealScopes and shows some sample images ranging from good to bad? The radiants are lumped in with the princess cut discussion, but maybe it''ll help you interpret what you see.

When I was picking out my radiant I was going nuts looking at IS images and sarin reports etc. In the end I purchased a stone that didn''t have any of that stuff available. LOL I fell in love with it when I saw it, so perhaps that''s what will happen with you as well.
