I''m kind of disappointed in the fact that there are so few princesses out there that meet my basic criteria and budget. I''m looking to propose in late Sept., and I feel like I''m running out of time with not even a short list of stones to compare one another against simply b/c I can''t find the stones out there. I''m looking for a 1.7 - 2.0 ct, F-H, VS1-SI1, AGS ideal cut around $15K. The stone I''m looking at is below -- should I just go ahead and buy it or wait till I have some other stones to compare it against? I have 0 other options right now (Brian G. suggested waiting till end of Aug. to see if he can find something). Please help!

Looks good to me.

I can't tell from that low-resolution scar of the report, but is the feather near a corner?

Corners of princess diamonds are fragile.

I know! They are hard to find, aren''t they?! I recently snagged mine with very similar criteria.

The stone you posted looks great.

But you do have options...
Have you checked out Good Old Gold?

This is one I considered It is an I , but with an ideal cut, you might be surprised with the color-- and look at the size

A bit smaller, but a G color and a nice price
And another I considered, but a bit over budget

Good luck deciding. I love love love my 2 ct princess

This one is actually a tad larger, and very nice (if eyeclean), as is the BGD stone. Not sure how it compares in price. I had a look around, but can''t find anything just as nice and larger than the GOG diamond.

I guess you need to decide if you want to possibly put off proposing to wait and see what comes down the pike. Nice stones in the larger carat weights are harder to find these days.

Ditto that. The princess you have picked out looks very good.

Side note. Am I the only one floored by the incredible optical symmetry of the 1.79 G from GOG?

Wow, that is an ISee2 Princess, didn't know they cut princess too.

Regarding the feather, check with WF if it will result in structural problems if you are worried. Unlikely as it is a ACA, VS2 clarity grade, and their brand name is in it.

Nice, huh?

Sc, they cut other shapes too, not sure what all.

I''d love to be able to go to 2ct, but I''m wondering about the ASET on the first and third GOG ones -- does it look like it has a lot of leakage? The G looks nice, I don''t know a lot abt diamonds (am still learning here for a while now), but that kind of symmetry is rare from what I''ve seen in others. The ASET on that one looks better than the other 2 for some reason?

BG''s factory source will open up next wk, so I''m trying to put it off till then at least but I know I have to make a decision soon. I really appreciate all the help here :)

Good luck.:)

All of the GOG stones are top quality princess diamonds with minimal leakage and good light return. I cannot believe that the difference in symmetry between those two and the 1.79 would be noticeable in live viewing. The comment was made more in admiration of the care, skill and precision of the cutter than in any way downgrading the other stones. You have four excellent stones in this thread and any would be a great choice, or you can wait to see what BGD has coming up later--he surely will not disappoint. All three of these vendors really know how to select the best of the best in cut. Us cut-o-philes just like dissecting minute details that don't matter in real life.

Ditto the above.

If you are tight on time, this diamond looks excellent and if it falls within your budget, definitely worth considering. In terms of timing, be sure to set aside a few weeks to have an engagement ring made up, particularly if you''d like to set the diamond in a custom made designer engagement ring. The corners of a princess cut are extremely fragile and the setting should be solid enough to protect the diamond.
