i'm not too familiar on how to judge proportions on OMCs and i'm curious as to what you all think. here's a pic of the EGL cert but just in case it doesn't come out too clearly, here are the stats:

1.78 Old Mine Brilliant - K VS1
7.09 x 6.82 x 4.91

Depth: 72%
Table: 57%
Crown: 24.6%
Pavilion: 38.3%
Girdle: Very thin to slightly thick
Polish/Symmetry: Good/Good

Fluor: Strong Blue

here''s a pic of the stone. it''s simply gorgeous IRL and looks whiter than what the pic shows. i wish i had a better close up of it though:

Is it for sale online or from a jewellery store?

Some comments:

1) It is cut quite deep so it will faceup smaller than its carat weight. (More like a 1.6 -1.7 Carat Stone)
2) Tall crown which is helpful for fire and brilliance
3) We can''t tell anything from the numbers about optics you would need an ASET image to tell more.
4) EGL is soft on grading it could be one or two color grades lower, and one or two grades lower in clarity. EGL is just inconsistent.
5) Strong Blue Fluoro will help the stone look white when UV light is present take away the UV light and the stone will have more warmth.

Bottom line none of this really matters if you like the stone and it speaks to you when viewing in person.

Hi Vip!

In that case if you are seriously interested, get an independant appraisal as that will give you a much better idea of what you have there. Here is theappraiser tool, if the price is right it could be worth further investigation.

Swoon!

That said, to figure out if you''d be getting what you''re paying for, do make sure you go to an appraiser who''s familiar with *older* cuts, though.

Lorelei and Hest88 - thank you so much for input! once BF and i are closer to narrowing down our options (this particular stone is one of them), we will most definitely be getting it appraised.

ChunkyCushionLover - thank you for your input as well! i wasn''t too sure how consistent EGL was either and i will try to get an ASET image. just a quick question about the depth: is that deep for an OMC? i know they''re usually cut deeper with a higher crown when compared to a RB, but is that too deep?

again, thank you all for your insights!

that's a tall crown. seems to be trapping some color, though a K in that size, I'm not surprised. I'm also not sure if the symmetry is off? Anyway, it certainly has some personality, and seems to command a closer look.
