Thoughts on this floral halo CAD?

Hi!!

For the last several weeks my fiancé and I have been working with a local jewelry store to custom make my engagement ring. The process is coming to an end and I wanted to get thoughts on the latest CADs. The center diamond is 1ct, E, VS2 GIA (which is a big improvement from the EGL International “E” we bought over the summer!)

Do you see a potential problem with this setting or something that should be changed? It will be in 18kt yellow gold. I am going for a floral type halo so the jewelers are suggesting a thin bezel around the outside of the diamonds in the halo, which are 0.03cts each.

Thanks very much for any input :)

I'm not such a big fan of the way the head of the ring is just perched on top of the band, looks like an accident waiting to happen. I much prefer a cathedral style.

+1. I think a cathedral setting will be much more stable. The ring looks top-heavy, like one hard knock could make the head snap right off.

Another vote that it looks top heavy and an accident waiting to happen. If you don't want a cathedral style, maybe you could delete the "neck" which would help integrate the head to the shank? I hope that makes sense.

I couldnt agree more with the last 3 post. The head just looks like it's ready to topple and very top heavy. Not very pleasing
to the eye. A cathedral shank would certainly help that look.

That gallery is just way too busy for me. I might would have less post leading up to the halo. Are there 12? I think I would knock
it down to 6 or 4. Is this gallery based on another ring? I would like to see a link to it to see the finished effect you are going for.
It might just be the cad looking so busy. I also might consider doing away with the bumps on the post holding up the halo. I would
want to see a CAD with and without them.

I would consider this a unique design and one that definitely has appeal. However, the top definitely looks heavy, as mentioned by previous posts. Try opening the base a little and building the head a little lower and more supported or securely attached to the shank. Overall, it's a nice design, but structurally, it is dangerous. Don't risk your diamond in my opinion.

I don't know anything about structural requirements or even how a cathedral head differs from what the CAD has, but I love that unique floral halo.

The current design risks the basket and stone breaking off at the base (structurally dangerous), as well as more potential for ring spinning due to the top heavy weight distribution.

I love the concept of your ring but also share the concern about structural integrity. The vintage vibe reminds me a lot of the Tacori Full Bloom collection. Is that what you were going for? Here's a link that shows how your ring would look with the cathedral modification. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the feedback on the drawings. I wanted to side profile of the ring to look similar to this Tacori ring. But after a closer look the base of this Tacori ring does seem more sturdy, whereas the ring in the CAD seems to have a more 'pinched' looking base.

The jeweler already did a wax casting of the ring that I'll get to see tomorrow. I'll bring up the fact that the ring is a little top heavy. Thank you again so much for the advice! Probably saved a diamond ;)

To be honest, I think the current ring design overpowers the diamond. I'm not sure what your situation is, but I'd put more money into the diamond and get a plain setting for now. You can always upgrade the setting later. Alternatively, you can size down the ring so your current diamond can shine as the star of the show. I hope everything works out to your heart's desire! :wink2:
