First of all, I want to thank everyone for all their help. I have learned so much in just the last several weeks since I have found PS. Who would have thought that a quick google search for "diamond reviews" would have changed everything!

I have the opportunity to get the following diamond at a pretty good price and wanted some thoughts.

2.475 ct
G
VS2
Cut grade: AGS1
table: 56.9
depth: 62.4
crown angle: 35.1
pavilion angle: 40.8
girdle: 0
culet: 0
polish: 0
symmetry: 1

sounds nice.

have you seen it yet?

I haven''t seen it yet. It is on its way and I should have all the images, IS, etc. tomorrow.

What are the thoughts on AGS1?

What are the thoughts on AGS1?

Nothing, just that it''s ideal optical performance score got dinged for the excellent symmetry it has instead of ideal symm. I would not worry about that. If it''s optical performance is AGS1, then maybe I will worry.

Yep sounds promising, look forward to seeing the images! You can find some lovely AGS1 stones, this could be one of them.

Yes- it has an AGS report (I got all the numbers from there). Should have the images today. Anything special that I should be looking at?

Glad you guys think this looks promising. I was nervous about the AGS1 at first, but I think that it is more strict than many GIA excellent, right?

Just a follow up... How can you tell if the optical performance is AGS1? I didn''t see that on the report.

An excellent symm/polish will result in a net lowering of the cut grade by a point. Since your symm is excellent, and the overall cut grade is AGS1, the optical performance grade should be ideal to begin with, an AGS0 in cut grade.

I personally have not seen a report with an AGS1 for optical performance yet. In the newer reports, there will be an additional flap which will give the score for light performance, proportion factors and finish score which makes up the cut grade.

example

EDT: There should be a statement in the report that says a net lowering of cut grade due to symm or something to the effect. Am I correct?

Yes (see below). Got it- starting to make sense now. Thanks!! Any concerns with a symmetry score of 1?

Deductions:
brightness- 0.0000
contrast- 0.0000
dispersion- 0.0000
leakage- 0.0000
weight ratio- 0
tilt- 0
durability- 0
Sum: 0

Net Lowering:
girdle- 0
culet- 0
polish- 0
symmetry- 1
Largest- 1

For polish/symm, non-experts are unable to tell the difference between excellent and ideal with naked eye. So it is acutally a good buy without the mark up that comes with an ideal symm/polish.

The images will be useful when you get them, it could be a lovely stone. It is actually said that the naked untrained eye cannot tell the difference between good and above polish and symmetry, but usually those who want a top cut stone will expect at least excellent in these categories however as part of their diamond's finish.

Got the IS today. I think it looks great. Thoughts??

Here''s the 40x image.

That should be a gorgeous stone!

I''m so excited. I think it will be great. Now to decide which setting. I''m thinking of something very simple- perhaps a Cartier 1895 solitaire replica (no pave).

Thanks for all the positive feedback. I am so appreciative of your time and input.

Yes- the diamond is reserved and I just need to make my final decision. The fact that you all think it is a high quality stone really helps. And I am glad that after seeing the pictures you still feel that way. It is always hard to imagine it sight unseen.

Now I just need to find a good Cartier replica and I''ll be all set....

Thank you! I would never have been able to get her such a beautiful diamond if it wasn''t for all the wonderful help I found here on PS. I have learned so much from all the posts, emails, comments that everyone has written. And with this information I managed to get her something bigger and more beautiful than I ever imagined- all at an amazing price. I would have never found WF without PS, and Katie has been wonderful to work with.

I know I am lucky that I am able to get such a beautiful stone, but even more lucky to have found an amazing woman to give it to.

This thread should be of some help hopefully. (if you have anymore questions, just make a new thread specifically on the setting)

Tiger it really has been a pleasure helping you, it is because of posters like yourself that we stick around and spend so much time trying to assist. WF are a fantastic company and you can purchase with confidence.

If you can once the ring is completed, could you post some pics for us please??
