I''ve been looking through this forum for quite a while and thought I''d hop on and finally join. Got a question about a diamond I''m looking at from Good Old Gold.

Here are the specs:

.90ct F VS2
56.1% Table
62.10% Depth
35.5* Crown angle
40.5* Pavilion angle
ideal polish
ideal symmetry
no fluorescence
no cutlet

From the HCA it scores a .7 which is lower than any diamond i''ve put in there. What is the reason for this. Is it too low of a score?

What do you think based on the specs? I should be getting pictures later today on it.

Thanks!

Well reading on PS the HCA is a tool to weed out bad performers so as long as you score between a 0-2 you should be fine. A score of a .9 is not better than a score of a 1.2; it is just a tool to weed out stones.

Everything looks great so far, do you have the link to the diamond to look at the images? The HCA is only a weed out tool and the score is great as Skippy mentioned. Basically, it''s best to weed out diamonds over 2 and then use other criteria to make your final selection from there. You might want to reserve it on the site first just to ward off snatchers.

Here are the pics specs and all that stuff. I''m hesitant about the crystal but I don''t know if it''ll be noticeable by the naked eye.

I''m no expert, what do you guys think?

It''s a gorgeous and beautiful stone! It''s extremly well cut and should be stunning in person. In that high of clarity you don''t have to worry about seeing a thing, but you can call up the folks at gog and ask them to look at it with their own eyes just to make sure if you are concerned.

what do you mean high of clarity? The color?

Sorry I am a total newbie at this stuff

The clarity refers to the amount of inclusions in the stone. VS2 is almost always eye-clean. If you don''t know a lot about diamonds, you definitely chose a good vendor who has pre-screened the stones for you!

Anyone else have any more thoughts?

It is a gorgeous stone!!

Another vote for- GO FOR IT! It''s beautiful.

It looks gorgeous to me. I''d buy it.

Great! Thanks for all the encouragement! I''m looking at putting this in a Vatche Royal x-prong so I think it''s just going to shine. Should I ask for them to put a prong over (or in this case under) the inclusion so it''ll be less seen?

I''ll keep you guys updated on the process

At VS2 clarity, you''re almost assuredly not going to be able to see the inclusion(s) with your naked eye, and quite possibly even with a loupe.

But if it will make you feel better, as if they can be seen with the naked eye.

It''s going to be a stunning ring!

Thanks for all the input everyone. I''m nervous as this is my first diamond purchase and by far largest online purchase I''ve made but with the recommendations of Good Old Gold from this board I feel safe.

I''ll keep everyone updated with pics!

Sarah has 20 year old eagle eyes.
Ask her to eyeball it if your concerned but there isn''t anything to be concerned about.

Ditto Ellen''s advice. You really don''t have to worry about seeing the crystal unless you are examining the stone under a loupe or microscope.

You are doing great and picked a beautiful stone and setting and the folks at GOG are great. The setting is classic and well-made, you really can''t go wrong with the combination you picked.

Please do come back with pictures!! We can''t wait to see it!
