Hi PSers,

I'm finally ready to actually purchase a diamond! I'm pretty clueless when it comes to diamonds but I've tried to learn a bit on here and have appreciated everyone's helpful posts.

I am getting a custom setting through ERD so I've decided to purchase the diamond through them as well. Chris has been very helpful and patient with me.

With my $8,000 budget I really wanted to maximize cut and carat. The J color does not bother me, I'm just a little hesitant on the amount of inclusions but Chris has said in his opinion it is eye clean.

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts before I make this huge purchase! Does the cut look good? How will the medium blue florescent effect the stone?

Thank you so much!

This is an interesting stone, particularly because the vendor is telling you its a clean stone... I'd love to see some photos and video. It's got a fair number of disconcerting inclusions noted on the cert. As for the fluorescence, I think its a huge advantage in a "J" stone so that wouldn't worry me at all. Overall, I think you can do better, particularly if you're willing to go warmer.

Thank you so much for your reply RandG! That's very helpful to know that the florescent shouldn't be an issue. I've requested photos and videos from ERD. I'm hesitant to go any warmer as it will be set in Platinum.

No worries!!! I think staying in the "J" range is perfect. I have two J's, one with and one without fluorescence. The one with looks like an H!

Are you at all open to a pre-loved modern stone, or an old European cut? You can often get more for your money. So long as the piece has a recent certification showing no integrity issues to the stone and it receives a good polishing, it can look as good as new! I admit I have a bias, but the faceting of an old cut stone can be really spectacular and unique :)

I would also look further and agree that a magnified photo and video of that diamond would be necessary. It has a large table and low crown, and I do not find that as attractive as a higher crown angle and smaller table. With the large table, the inclusions might be more visible, too.

Thanks again RandG! Most of my search I've been focused on round brilliant diamonds but I'm open to any suggestions as I know the people on this website are much more educated than I am! My preference would be to order the diamond from ERD so they can take care of everything in one place.

Thank you for your reply diamondseeker2006! I hadn't thought that with the larger table the inclusions might be more visible - that is a great point.
