Per everyone's helpful comments, I have been in touch with Mark at ERD about finding a cushion cut, who has been great thus far. I am looking for a 2+ carat, G/H color, excellent cut and SI1 or better clarity cushion (preferably antique).

Since I know neither my other nor I know nearly enough to spend this kind of money on a diamond based solely on our own judgment, I would like to get thoughts on this diamond: http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/2.28-carat-h-vs2-a-cut-beyond-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-74737.html . The GIA certificate for this stone does not contain much additional information, but I can post if if needed.

Thank you! :)

Gorgeous stone....but you'd have to ask if it is eyeclean. I can see an inclusion pretty easily in the picture and wonder if that is why that stone hasn't sold yet.

Good point! I noticed that as well, but did not even think to ask since it is VS2, but I will definitely do that. It does seem like it has been on the website for a while.

My other concern is that it might look rather rectangular with a 1.12 L/W ratio, but that may just be because I have not seen any cushions of this ratio in person?

Set East to West it will be beautiful. I doubt if the inclusion is noticeable to the naked eye. Remember the videos are magnified.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but what is the purpose of setting a stone like that one east/west versus setting it vertically? I have seen that mentioned in relation to other cushions. Would it make that stone look less rectangular and/or larger?

No, it's just a preference. It needs to look good on your hands. So it is recommended you try an east/west stone on before you spend thousands setting one that way.

The diamond is gorgeous.

I think it is really pretty as well. I will have to check out setting it east-west to see if I like the way that looks. :D

I have never really though I would be a fan of a large cutlet, but I am asking for more pictures to see if it would bother me. Does a cutlet like that cause a lot of light leakage? Also, I noticed that the GIA certificate has no cut grade listed (similar to many of the other cushions on the site). Is it safe to rely on it being in ERD's "a cut beyond" collection for this type of stone (listed as cushion brilliant)?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who chimed in on this stone. We ended up purchasing it, and it is a keeper! I had a hard time sending it back to Mark at ERD to be set, but I am sure the final product will be even prettier. :)

Please post pics when you get the final product. We love pictures of bling people buy!! And congratulations!
