Hi! me again.

GOG emailed me with this link & video; can''t wait to watch it when I get home.

What are your assessments? I quite like it; the point where the windmills meet looks a little funky to me, like a pencil point?

Thanks!

p.s.- this is the 3rd (+-1) "is this asscher good" topic. Have I exceeded my limit/worn out your patience?

Naw, you haven''t worn out our patience. It might help to keep things in the same thread though so we can see the other stones that you are considering. I don''t know much about asschers, but I don''t like the look of the windmills on this stone.

Thanks kcoursolle! Will do. This is the only stone I am considering at the moment. The others are either no longer available, or were not given the thumbs up. Yes, the windmills don''t seem to taper evenly <- not sure if I''m describing correctly. I was looking at a Daniel K 3 stone ring from Pearlman''s, fantastic price, but a very astute Gyspy pointed out it was extremely deep... btw I love your ring! The setting is gorgeous!

Waiting for vid to download.
So far I think it is kicken.
It has some minor symmetry issues but I think they are just that minor.
The diaXray looks better than the regular picture, less tilt

Thanks Storm! I love the shape, wide corners. Are the symmetry issues causing the windmills to look slightly off, or is that the tilt?

little of both.
Ask Jon how they look in person.

After watching the vid I like it.
Its a bright fiery asscher.
It comes down to how the patterns look in person and Jon is the only one that can answer that at the moment.

Thanks again Storm. It does have very nice broad flashes of light. I''ll give GOG a call on Tuesday about the windmills.

What do you think of this Emerald? My OH came across it recently.

My initial love was the emerald cut. But when I tried one on for the first time, it looked really skinny on me, and accentuated my rather long and bony fingers (not in a good way). Then I discovered the asscher.

I know what you mean about the windmill. Most asschers have very straight lines but these almost look curved, I personally think it takes away some of the lovely squareness that categorizes asschers. You might like to have something a little different thought, I guess it what appeals to you personally.

About the emerald, that appeals to me. Its rather square for an emerald, and if you prefer the emerald cut then maybe this is a great comprimise for you.

It if was for me I would take a better look at the emerald and forget the asscher. But thats just me. Best of luck!

Hey guys & gals!

I''m trying to get a feel for what a "good asscher" is... since I''m getting the feeling that they are very difficult to find.

Besides the other one posted above on GOG, I found this one:

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4287/

Would this be a good stone? If not, what would a better stone have that this one doesn''t? I want a stone for under $12,000.

Also, what sites are good for asschers, and are they reputable?

Thanks!

Hi crydamoure001! thanks for your input. I do like this stone, everything is quite nice, just the windmills look different to me, as you''ve noticed too. I will speak with GOG about it. I did read other threads - and it seems great emeralds are also hard to come across. lol I can discern terrible stones, but not bad or slightly bad or minimally bad ones. I look for stones that fall within the %s, and have appealing shapes to me - squarish, wide corners etc. There have been stones that I or others posted that I thought were ok, but were pointed out to have bad p3 angles etc. Thanks again for your input!

Hi Amanda, lol yes, "good asschers" are hard to find, "kicken asschers" are even harder. For reading material I''d suggest searching old threads, checking out the faqs etc. There''s a recent thread by jplouis I think, it offers very good updated info by Storm, Gypsy, and other resident pricescope experts. Please disregard my post in that thread, I cut & pasted in all the tidbits I came across, and some was out of context (jplouis was looking for a RA), and very outdated. GOG would be a great place to start your search. They are extremely well recommended here, and are very very knowledgeable in all cuts, but Jonathan has an extra special touch with asschers. Other members have had success with other vendors as well - search for recent asscher posts. Pearlman''s Daniel K rings are unbelievably gorgeous, I would have gone that route, but have my heart set on a simple platinum solitaire setting. (though I am still considering that 3 stone ring

)$12k is definitely doable. Good luck on your search!

To much obstruction(black) in the diamXray image in the center of that one in my opinion.
At some viewing distances it will be darker than optimal in the center.

I wonder why Jon is only offering a 30 day guarantee on the first stone. It causes me to pause as to it''s quality.

Thanks, Storm and Clop! I appreciate your posts!

So far, the search has been informative, and also frustrating. There are so many asschers available, but I had no idea it was so difficult to weed out all of the bad ones from the good ones. I love asschers, and I''m in no hurry to buy, but it will take a lot of convicing for my boyfriend to look and be persistent. He is, however, going to Germany for the year, starting in September, which will probably make the search more difficult- unless he wants to head over to the Netherlands and get me a real Roayl asscher... ha ha. One can hope, right?

If you know of any companies that are good for buying in Europe (Germany in particular), let me know! Or, do you know of if these online companies will ship to Europe?

Thanks,

Amanda
