Thoughts on this 1.18ct OEC?

I love it - the fact it is way deeper than an AVR some might argue you are losing face up size wise but a deep stone, tiny tiny table and a nice puffy looking crown just means more fire and personality to me!!! It has a larger crown, smaller table & a deeper lower half and a much cooler cut overall than an AVR IMHO but some people do love & prefer the predictable light return of AVRs. It has a very very pale yellow (slightly buttery) tint to it too, meaning it will look great in a YG bezel or maybe a RG setting.

If you seek perfect faceting buy an AVR or an AVC. People tend to be in one camp or the other they strongly want the perfect light return of a new old cut or they find them too cookie cutter and prefer something more unique, or actually want a bigger crown or a deeper lower half and something more quirky....

It is also possible for a stone with these specs to have a nailhead a small dark dead area in the centre because of that tiny table and the depth. It's either going to be an absolute fireball in person or it will have a small dark dot in that centre area that doesn't go away. I think you would probably have to view it in person to see which one it is. I really really notice the yellow tint in the stone in the centre area more than out towards the edges which again is probably an illusion caused by the small table and the overall depth of the stone.

I want to be sure I know what you have now. Do you still have ideal cut studs? And Lady J, 2.6 cts, early modern rb?

First question about this stone. Are you sure you are okay with L color? Are you setting it in white or yellow gold?

This stone would be quite different from the other diamonds you wear if you still have the diamonds above. I would consider a transitional as far as an old cut goes as it would blend in with your other diamonds a little better. An AVR would also be good as it would have chunky facets but show up on the neck better due to the light return.

However, there is nothing like seeing the stone yourself to be sure. If you see it, you will either be in love with it or not, and that makes the decision for you! I had to look at 5-6 AVR's to choose narrow down my color and size preferences! They all had their own personalities, too, as hand cut stones!

I have a few different stones (and shapes) in consideration. I don't want to post them all though, as not all of them are reserved.

I'm not looking for a matching set, just something different. :wink2:

I've had an AVC before, L color, so that doesn't worry me.

Oh, then that is great! I understand not posting the ones you are interested in because they definitely can disappear once comments are made on them! Good luck with your search!

I have an L as well and it faces a lot whiter than this stone does. Each one has a different body tint or undertone so each stone is different. Most AVRs and AVCs in general mask or hide colour well. This stone does not, but it would look really cool in a yellow or possibly rose gold setting for the very same reason. I think the opposite of what DS is saying it is totally unlike what you have already - much deeper and higher crown than lady J and much deeper and higher crown to an AVR, and it's going to have a different look to an AVC, so for that reason if you want in the same style but totally different provided it doesn't have any dead spots in the centre from that depth it might be a winner. Seeing it in person it's still going to be the best way to tell.

Can we use HCA calculations for vintage rounds? I know alot have high crown and small tables but seem to fall into AGS ideal ,how is that possible?
