Thoughts on specs for diamond earrings vs a ring

Do you have the same color and clarity standards for studs that you would for a ring? Considering buying my first (well cut) pair of studs and I would ideally like to get a 1 ctw pair. I see that WF has pre-set ones that are in the H/I SI1 range. Is that a safe purchase? If not, what should be parameters be for studs? My e-ring diamond is a G VS2 cushion brilliant if it matters. Also, any thoughts on the best setting would be much appreciated.

I have a set of I/J studs (one is an I and one is a J AGS graded) ideal cuts from BGD. My engagement ring is a a GIA G. It doesn’t bother me that they don’t have the same color grading and don’t think the difference is noticeable when worn. My pendant is an eight star H color and it looks fine with the studs as well.

My e-ring is an H and my studs are D and E. There is no visible difference in color unless scrutinized. The studs are much smaller than my e-ring so the color is not as prevalent. They all face up white.

I think you are very safe. Remember, color is graded from the side (pavilion) of the diamond and most people struggle to identify a SINGLE color grade unless in a side by side comparison. Also, face up color of a super ideal is particularly great because the stone is maximized for maximum light return and you get edge to edge brightness.

Lastly, if you stay with an eye clean SI1, I think that should be more than plenty good. Helps keep it mind clean enough, plus I don't think most people get close enough to really inspect clarity. But perhaps that is a male's point of view. I would have no issues getting close to my wife to inspect her earrings. I would admire earrings on a friend or acquaintance from afar for respect of personal boundaries and not to pass along the wrong message.

I got new studs last year (WF ACAs VS E color) but I am probably (much?) older than you and at this point in my life I am not willing to designate different parameters for different pieces (ring v earrings v pendants), whereas in younger years I was. I also wanted to select each stone individually.
As long as you can return if you don’t like you should give the pre-sets a shot if they are in your price-point. If you can swing it or are willing to go down in color/clarity/size, I would suggest you see what you could get in ACAs that you can upgrade with the full value paid as you are able to do so. A smaller pair of ACAs will still be seen across the room and will be more striking than any of your friends’ studs that may be larger unless they are also branded super ideals.
I do not believe that the pre-sets are ACAs so verify.

I’m 39 and I don’t currently own studs. My e-ring is a 1.07 cushion with a halo, so I probably wouldn’t want to get bigger than 1 ctw studs regardless of budget. Thanks for the helpful info. I am also debating going with ACAS of probably around .80/85 ctw. Might be a smarter purchase.

Thanks! This visual is helpful. My e-ring stone is a cushion and it has always looked white to me, so I don’t think I’m that sensitive to color.

I think that’s a really good idea
