Thoughts on 0.9C or 0.93C Diamonds Brillance

Hi everyone,

So, I'm looking at getting a round diamond for a white gold ring (with two side stone's I in color). I've been looking around james allen and found these three in my price range:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1518557.asp
and
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1531484.asp
and
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS2-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1507180.asp

Both seem to get great HCA scores (1.5) and I am leaning towards the I-SI1. The last one is cheaper by $1k but has an HCA score of 4, will that matter? Is there an issue with a 60/60 stone, the second one?

Thanks!

My main question related to 0.93c diamond is if the inclusions will show or are they eye-clean, especially when mounted. Looks like the inclusion is small and would be eye-clean from the loupe pictures. Would an eye-clean SI1 with HCA of 1.5 be just as brilliant as a VS2 with an HCA score of 1.5? Or does the VS2 have more brillance with the improved clarity? The diamonds I'm looking at are all roughly $4.5k.

Is there a large color difference from I->J? Would going to a J color be noticeable for a white gold setting or is it fairly small?

Do you like the 0.93C that I showed above or do you think it wouldn't be worth getting at all (visible blemishes, etc..)?

Thanks for your help!

No, don't get the .93, it will look dark. If you want to know if they are eye-clean you have to ask James Allen.

Ok, what about the 1.02 item # 1539666? Will that be bright?

That one is a contender.

Sorry, I know I gave you a lot of options. Pick your top 3, check with James Allen to see if they are eye-clean, and get Ideal Scopes for them.

ok, I submitted the request. Not quite sure what to look for from an idealscope image though.

Ok, which were your top 3?

You can post the Ideal Scopes in Rocky Talky when you get them.

I only picked that 1.02C one at the moment. Have to look at the others...

Ok, I added Item # 1533785 to the list to check out. Looks like it has an even better HCA score.

Here are the idealscopes. The brighter one is item #1533785 but then again I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for. I still would prefer item #1539666 for it's more recent GIA certificate. Is the darkness in item 1539666's image an issue?

I have a preference for the 1533785 (#1) and if James Allen says it is their recommendation, I would take that.

But you think they both look good from the idealscopes? I know earlier you said it was a contender and wanted to see the idealscope image.

My pick is the top IS. Better light performance.

So to further expand on this. The top one is a SI1, J Color, Ideal Cut that has an AGS Certificate from 2008 (no light performance standard) and the bottom one is SI1, J Color, Excellent Cut that has a recent GIA Certificate. Is the more recent GIA certificate something that would make the second one a better choice? Does certificate vendor matter in the value of the diamond between GIA and AGS? Thanks for your help so far!

The AGS one DOES have light performance. If you look at the report, the upper right hand corner says "Diamond Quality Document" and then says "Performance-Based."

You are buying a diamond, not a piece of paper, so pick the prettier one.

Ditto this.

I completely agree but from buying online you have to pick based on reports and images. Of course color standards could change between vendors or at least I've read that but there is a lot of conflicting information out there. I would imagine between AGS and GIA they would be similar. From what I see, the second image, 1539666 seems to be more symmetric to me. So, from just looking at the online image of the two, that's the one I like. Given that the light performance was deemed better on item #1533785, I wanted to know how much better since I don't like how the image seems to show the center point skewed to the right somewhat (doesn't seem symmetrical). 1539666 looks to have excellent light return, fire, and brilliance but then again I'm no expert. Do you think that 1539666 also has excellent performance in terms of light?

Thanks.

You can ask James Allen which is a higher "J" or "SI1" if you are interested.

The Ideal Scope was probably taken with the stone tilted. If you are worried about that you can ask JA if there is visible off-center symmetry.

You aren't limited to these two, you can ask for analysis and comparison with another one.
