Hi, I''m considering this cushion. The vendor can''t provide an ASET but only an Ideal Scope. There''s a strong bowtie in the Ideal Scope that''s black in the image. Is this cause for concern? Anything else about the Ideal Scope or the specs that I should be worried about? I don''t mind the white right in the middle, as I''m looking for an antique look and like the large culet.

Specs:
1.52 cushion brilliant
G S12
7.35 x 6.64 x 4.24mm
Depth: 63.9%
Table: 58%
Girdle: thin to slightly thick, faceted
Culet: large
Polish: VG
Symmetry: G
Flour: none

Thank you!

Hi Panda,

Do you have the actual photo of the diamond please? Idealscope is better than nothing, but not as useful as ASET as you know, but an actual pic of the diamond could help.

FYI - That really isnt a bowtie. Bowties are more common in Ovals or realy long cushions and the "bowtie" stretches along the entire width of the stone.

As you can see in my avatar, I have 2 triangles (facets) that are also black when looking at one frame of a picture. As you move the diamond around, those same 2 triangular facets start to reflect light. This phenomenon is often mistaken as a bowtie but it is a common and lovely feature of cushions - especially those of the chunky faceted nature.

Having said that, some cushions are shallower than others and are darker under the table in general which could be a problem but we cant tell from this one image you posted. Your stone''s depth, by the way, is considered in the proper range so that shouldnt be an issue. All the other specs look fine to me as well - nice small table so should have some nice fire.

If you cant see this stone in person perhaps the vendor can shoot some video so you can see how those facets look at different angles. This may be helpful. But at a minimum, please post some regular pics so we can look at the stone.

Thanks!

Hi Lorelei,

Thanks for responding. I can''t seem to copy the picture off the website but here''s the link: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?find=1&cid=130&item=863051

The picture also shows a prominent bowtie. I asked about this and was told that it''s just the way the picture was shot.
Panda, I would ask for some more pics of this diamond, it is very hard to tell from the IS and the small pic on the website.

The bowtie wouldnt be of a concern per my last post. What you should ask about is if that feather poses any structural issues since it looks like its close to the girdle/edge of the diamond. Also, GIA did change some grading standards post 2006 and this stone was graded about 5 years ago.

But I would also ask for more pics as Lorelei suggested. This way you can see if it just always dark under the table which might be an issue and the reason why the stone was graded in 2003 and not yet sold.

Did you already buy this? I clicked on the link and it says "this diamond is no longer available"

Lorelei and StoneSeeker, thanks for your thoughts. I haven''t bought it yet. It''s on hold for me. I just asked for some more pictures. Hopefully, I will get some and post them.
