How can these crimes still exist in this day and age?

I saw this a few weeks ago on my MSN homepage. Yes, it is a travesty. Unfortunately, there are so many unjustices being done to women in this world. I took 2 women''s studies classes in college 5 years ago and learned that we, as Americans, are so "priveleged" as compared to women in other countries. By that I mean we do not, in the U.S., condone female beating, mutilation, etc. IMO, we have to pay attention to who we vote for, and whether they are concerned with these issues.
