is a $55 billion a year business ,$55 billion ?, $5 billion maybe ?.....anyway they say blue nile owns 2.2 % of the market.

"PURCHASES OF WOMEN''S diamond jewelry in the first half of 2003 totaled an estimated $9.26 billion at retail, with an average price of $583, and diamond engagement rings accounted for sales of more than $2 billion during this period, reports a new consumer study devoted exclusively to the U.S. jewelry market and produced by two former De Beers executives. The "Diamond Jewelry Market" report--produced by Richard Farrell and Liam Webb, both of whom left De Beers in April 2002 to form 2 Degrees Freedom, a London-based marketing and research consultancy"
