I am in the process of purchasing a diamond but I still have time to back out, and I wish I read all of this information beforehand. I need some advice on whether or not this is a good stone, as well as a good price. At first I thought it was, now I''m questioning...

EGL cert.
0.86 car
6.17x6.13x3.74
table: 55%
depth: 60.8%
pavilion depth: 43%
crown height: 15%
Thin, faceted girdle
E color, SI1 clarity
sym / pol. -Ex /Ex
No flourescence or culet
Graining: nil (whatever that means)
this comes out ok in HCA but since it doesn''t have angles how can I be sure?

the crown height and pavilion depth combine to less than the total depth which i know means it is warped. So considering this is an EGL cert, what do you experts think about it?
Thank you to anyone reading and responding. I''ve been waiting my whole life to buy a diamond(the diamond) so I just want to do it right.

Oh $4500 for the stone

Thanks
-John

Welcome Jon!

Firstly have you actually seen this diamond? It looks as if it could be promising. Regarding any warping of this diamond, you will find that ' warping' and ' warped diamonds' has been discussed at length here on PS, and that it doesn't have any validity according to the opinion of some of the experts here. Do a search and you should find lots of threads on this matter, or this company, Diamondcutters International ( DCI) So personally, I wouldn't worry about a diamond being 'warped.'

Also which branch of EGL has graded this diamond? Is it EGL USA, Antwerp, Israel, Europe etc? If you have seen it and like it that is one thing, it looks as if it could possibly be a pretty stone, but it would be good to know which EGL division graded it. EGL USA is thought to be the most reliable out of the EGL labs for grading accuracy, so that info would be useful if you could get it please.

What many people do that are buying a diamond, is to choose between AGS0 cut grade and some GIA Excellents to find a well cut diamond. Cut is key for a diamond's beauty, so it is well worth concentrating on. Also it can be best to stick to a vendor who has in house diamonds, and who also has done the cut analysis and can advise you on the stone, with it in hand.

Is this diamond eyeclean being an SI1 clarity? Is it with an online vendor?

Hi johnny - I am not an expert by any means, but I would suggest to back out.? I know it can seem like a hassle, but this shouldn't be stressing you, you should feel happy and confident about your purchase.
clearly you've done some reading and found these certs are not always reliable.
if you'd like help pls post your preferences and the lovely ppl here will help you find a diamond you can be happy about!

I have seen the diamond 10x loupe. There is a small cloud near an edge which is a minor concern, but I assume that is why the price reflects so low. Also I believe it is just EGL international, as that is the web site that the certificate sends me to for verification.

What is the grade making inclusion, do you have access to the grading report to find this out, also that you can see which EGL lab graded it?

I agree that maybe I should look at some more stones. I trust the jewelers integrity, but perhaps not her taste, so as an option I can keep pushing for better stones to look at.

Ask if he can source you some AGS0 cut grade, and some GIA Excellents, as this will make finding a pretty diamond easier. The cut quality of GIA Excellent diamonds can be broad, so you can always return and post the proportions of any diamond you are considering, also use this tool to help you eliminate diamonds which may not be the best performers.

You can plug those numbers into a form on the GIA web site and get a very good estimate of what the cut would grade by GIA. It looks like at least VG and probably EX. I would be very leery, however, about color and clarity from EGL.
