Basicly, I have been engaged for 3 years and these past few months everyone I know has gotten engaged and they all are getting Princess cut diamonds, which is what I have. I know, I know, I know this is a stupid thing to feel bummed about, but I am. Because I honestly thought I was being different by choosing princess cut at the time. I didn''t know princess cuts would become so trendy.

And its not that I''m saying they all copied me, I didn''t invent the princess cut. And I know its incredibly trendy right now. But, a few times it felt really weird when they told me they wanted "my ring" and then ended up with the same thing. Like the time my friend showed up at my house unannounced with her boyfriend in tow, telling me they were Ering shopping in the area and just HAD to stop by. And then proceeded to ask to see my ring, which I wasn''t wearing at the time so I had to go and put it on. As soon as I came down with it, she showed her BF, and said "see that''s EXACTLY what I want" and then left immediately.

So anyway, I know this is so petty but as more and more girls I know get princess cuts (including my sister, another friend and my FI''s-brother''s-FI), I keep thinking I want to change my stone. Its not just about being different, I am actually thinking of going round. I just think the trendiness of the princess cut is bothering me.

So, I think I want to upgrade. But, I have a gorgeous princess cut wedding band, is there any other stone that would match with my wedding band? Because if I upgrade I''d want to keep that.

Any suggestions? I''m not crazy about sidestones either

goodness, that''s a tough one. I personally think the princess center stone looks the best with the princess band. would you consider moving your wedding band to your right hand and then choosing whatever shape you wanted on the left? keep in mind that round stones are the most popular so although many of your friends have princess stones you''re going to see rounds everywhere. I''m all for a good classic round though if that is what you really want.

As an added bonus, the same carat size in a round will face up much larger than a princess. So....you get a new shape AND a bigger look

Well, if you are wanting to change simply because so many now have Princess''s, do you realize how many more have rounds? You''ll not be going different with that, imo. What does your ring look like? If it''s simple, you could halo it, or get side stones, that might be different. (don''t know what all the other rings around you look like)

Just a thought, especially if you still really like your stone.

Can you post a picture of th set for us?

If you want something different I''d consider an Asscher or maybe an EC, but it''s hard to say without seeing the band.

I looked up your current set, and it''s just gorgeous. It''s such a shame to change it unless you really, really, really desire a different cut of stone. Are you totally against just changing your ER setting? I do think a RB would go fine with the eternity ring, if you make sure to get a setting that will let the WB sit fairly flush.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I think I am being very emotional lately and making a bigger deal out of this than it is. I mean, my rings are also platinum and I have an eternity band, which I think are also very trendy right now.

Today I was looking at my ring...and thinking about what it symbolizes, and how my FI worked really hard at finding me the "perfect ring"... and I almost got a little weepy at the thought of parting with my ring.

But I think when I decided I HAD to have a princess cut to begin with, I did so for the wrong reasons. I knew nothing about the different cuts and I liked that they were square, but thats probably all I knew about them besides they were "different". I suppose that now that everyone has jumped on the princess bandwagon it has made me realize that I AM educated on diamonds and I could really pick out the ring that is for me.

When I told my FI that all this has me thinking of upgrades he was like "Okay! Do you want an asscher?" (He knows I like them. Although I still haven''t seen one outside of the glass, so I don''t know if they are for me). So I know he is supportive.

So here is my real question... I''ve attached a pic of my rings. What upgrade options do you think I have? I definitely want to keep the wedding band, but should I add something to my solitaire, or what other solitaire stones would look good with it? If any!

mia, I''m not trying to be evasive, but before we all give a bunch of suggestions, I would first decide if you want this stone or not. Then we could go from there.

Ellen- I''m sorry, I seem to be all over the place with my previous post. I guess I just need to clear my head and decide what it is that I want to do.

I''ll repost when I figure that out.

I would go to a jewelry store to try on some different sets so you can see what you are leaning toward.
