Kenny's thread on the rocket guy gave me an idea for a fun thread.

What things or ideas that are reality/proven today started out as science fiction?

I will start.
Thinking machines aka computers.

Dick Tracy's video phone wrist watch. It manifested a bit differently, but that's certainly what we have.

The telephones with a TV screen, like on the Jetsons!
They call it "Skype" now.
My sister and I always laughed and said "Oh no, what if someone calls and you answer the phone without makeup on????"

Everything on Star Trek

Karl, sorry for posting 'fake news'. :lol-2:

Self driving cars
Automated houses that you can talk to (alexa, add carrots to the grocery list)

The Buck Rogers comic strip.

Mobile phones to me represent the biggest change in technology in the past 30 years. Not only can you take or make a phone call anywhere, it now takes photos / videos which you can send or store, a mini computer to search any info you need, all your music that you can listen to, a street directory at your fingertips plus driving / walking instructions plus any amount and type of games to entertain you - all in a device that fits easily in your pocket. Quite incredible in my view.

space plane aka space shuttle
Robots on mars aka rovers

HI:

Matrix--and nanotechnology. Star Trek and robotic surgery.

cheers--Sharon

Helicopters. (Originally designed-up in concept by Da Vinci IIRC)

Also, George Orwell's Big Brother...

Back to the Future had self-tying shoes and Nike made that a reality with HyperAdapt sneakers

Mobile phones...

a mini computer to search any info you need...

You refer, of course, to access to the internet - an amazing worldwide web of information which can provide the answer to any query you need and bring people together to solve new ones. The same internet that 90% of the population seemingly use solely to chat about 'celebrities', watch videos of cats playing the piano, and watch p*rn... LOL

... and be lied to, which resulted in Trump's election.

... worst invention ever ... even :knockout: worse than TV.

But without it, there would be no Pricescope ;)
