Whenever the weather is sunny I pull my stones out. And sunny is rare here. Sometimes I forget how pretty and lively they could be in the sun and shade..So I have to take new pictures of the old stones.
trillion mint garnet
trillion lilac pink spinel
round spess
round umbalite
cushion umbalite
oval pinkish purple spinel

Your pictures look so professional. Each gem is captured with sharpness and clarity, with the background blurred. The colours stand out incredibly.

What is the light purple one? The very last stone? A spress?

What size and now many carats?

Love them all!

Thanks Chrono. The background is blur due to the macro lens I use. It's a Canon 100/2.8 macro, hence a very shallow Depth of field. Only the stones are in focus, it is so shallow even the stone holder is out of the focus field.

I think the last one is a spinel (oval).

Thanks! I see the order of the stones listed now.

Must have that oval light purple spinel! Gorgeous! And the first minty one too.. And all the others! :)

I could just blow those photos up and put them on my wall as art. Really like the colors. How does your cushion Umbalite do in other lighting conditions - does it brown out at all?

Thanks The last one is a bit greyish, which is not ideal. I am still searching for the perfect no grey spinel in that color or similar....

Not that I remember...I will check tonight. Your post inspired me, I think it will be neat to take pictures use microscope, and blow up the picture of the inside world of a stone. That is an art of nature!

Beautiful stones and photos! I especially like the mint and umbalite garnets. :appl:

It would be awesome if you can take magnified pictures of your spinels to show the inclusions. It's been so long since anyone posted such pictures and I've kept these two because they look so pretty. Unfortunately, I don't recall whose stones or pictures they are so I cannot give credit to them.

OTL - If you ever find your dream non-grey purple spinel let me know and I'll take your current one off your hands :D

I love the negative crystals you so often see in spinels - they remind me of little UFOs, or some little starships out of Star Wars. :))

I don't think I can take photos like that, they must have extra equipment set up. No regular macro lens can do the job.
Those are really fascinating, I like them, and also many other shapes of cool inclusions

What wonderful photos! It's such a joy to see some colour. Thank you so much for sharing.

Wow- those are wonderfully crisp photos! I especially love the mint and raspberry colored ones!

That's not a problem! Until I find it...

Checked these last night, it does brown out a little, which is sad. Both of them turns a bit brownish red under fluorescent and more red under incandescent light...
